UPDATE: I was contacted by store manager Devlin, only because DM saw recent reviews. She wanted to see if she could get me to take mine down because “it reflects poorly on her store”. She spoke over me & just gave excuses like her tech had to run out for “an emergency” that day…but offered no real solutions. Conversation went nowhere, neither will my review.
If I could give zero stars I would, this shop is dishonest and takes advantage. I got a flat tire coming home from Charlotte on a Saturday evening, everywhere was getting ready to close or already closed, as it was around 5 pm. This place was open until 6 and close to my house. Normally, I would have my donut put on roadside and take it to my trusted hometown shop an hour away in Morganton, who’s been taking care of my family’s vehicles for 15+ years. However, they close at noon on Saturdays and wouldn’t be open again until Monday. I needed to get back on the road by Monday morning for work, so I stopped in here.
Mind you, I keep up with regular maintenance on my vehicle, and my car had just been thoroughly serviced maybe a month before this incident, including tire and break inspection.
After the tech looked at my tire, the girl upfront came back & told me that they couldn’t patch the tire because “it had dry rot all over it”, that all my tires had dry rot, and I needed to replace all my tires. Certain my regular shop would have notified me of this when they serviced my car, and considering we had just put 4 brand new tires on 3 years ago….I questioned it. I asked if there was a nail in the tire or something else causing it to not hold air and she said “I don’t know, I can have him look & let you know, but because of the dry rot the entire tire has to be replaced regardless”.
Since I had to take their word for it and didn’t really have a choice but to purchase a new tire at this point, if they weren’t going to patch it, I had her price me out for one. She said the cheapest she could do was $273 for a Cooper. When I inquired about Kelly edge, as that’s what all my tires are, and were done for $750 TOTAL for all 4 out the door with labor, I found it shocking ONE tire was going to run me almost $300. She told me Kelly Edge had been discontinued (which they have not). Very irritated & annoyed at this point knowing I was being lied to, but there wasn’t much I could do if I wanted to get back on the road, I had them put the ONE tire on and told them I wouldn’t be replacing the others. The job was done fairly quickly, so I knew they hadn't bothered to rotate or balance after slapping the new tire on. As the girl called me up to check out, the one guy working in the shop peeled out of the parking lot. During checkout I followed up asking what the tech told her in regards to my question about if anything was stuck in the tire causing the flat, and her response was “I don’t know, he never told me and he already left, but I can go look at the tire real quick”. I asked her to please do that, and she returned saying she didn’t see anything but again wasn’t sure. The whole experience was so unprofessional, sketchy, and I left feeling taken advantage of and pissed.
Of course I took my car back to my regular shop ASAP because I didn’t trust anything about that experience with Mr. Tire. My car felt completely off when driving after this, vibrating in the steering wheel etc. They confirmed my tires are perfectly fine and do NOT need replaced. They balanced and rotated everything for me, since this shop didn’t bother to. While doing so they noted that all weight was on this one tire, and also discovered that the wheel was severely bent. They showed me how bent it was and said it likely happened while changing the tire since the vibrating wasn’t an issue until after this incident. If it was bent prior to this, things would have felt off previously, and even if not, the shop should have noticed this while changing the tired & pointed that out to me instead of just throwing a new tire on it and calling it good. Now I’m paying another $300 for a wheel. Stay away from this place.
