I made an appointment to replace a door window. Safelite said if the car was dropped off prior to scheduled service they’d guarantee it would be ready the day of scheduled service. I got a text that the service was complete and the car was ready for pick up. Called ahead to get a locker code to pick up keys, went to site, and the keys were not in the locker and the car was parked inside the garage, not accessible and service was not complete. We got zero communication from safelite about any issues or delays in service, we got, the opposite, they told us service was complete when they hadn’t even started the service. I called safelite to inform them of the issue and was told someone would contact me that day but nobody from safelite ever contacted me. This service was supposed to take one day and it took three days with NO apology or accountability from safelite. Will never use safelite again!
My appointment was scheduled today between 8:00 and 12:00. It never happened and nobody ever contacted me. I reached out to the Durham location and they told me that the tech supposedly had a flat tire and would get to me when he could. My only other option would be to book a new appointment which isn't available until next week now.
Had a mobile repair done on my honda last year. It had a small stone strike at the lower part of the windshield. They filled the strike, but then ground a deep chunk of the glass out after the repair was done. Left the windshield with a notable (dime sized) divot in the windshield. I have had dozens of stone chips filled over the years, every other chip has been almost invisible afterwards, this was significantly worse than what I started with. No quality work done by this facility.

I am extremely upset and dissatisfied with the service I have received at the Safelite location on Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham, NC. I initially went in for a cracked windshield repair that was covered by my insurance. Since then, this location has replaced my windshield twice and is now scheduling a third replacement. Each time, the molding that trims the windshield has been damaged during installation.
In total, I have visited this location six times, in addition to two service appointments at my home. I have never experienced such poor service. The manager, Randy, provided his phone number and repeatedly promised to call me back after speaking with the store manager, but I never received a return call.
As a result, I went back to the location again, only to be told they could not service my vehicle because the necessary parts were unavailable. This was especially frustrating because I had attempted to contact Randy and the office multiple times beforehand without receiving any response. I felt I had no choice but to show up in person to seek assistance.
Overall, this experience reflects extremely poorly on Safelite’s brand and its stated commitment to quality and efficient service.

2/14/2026, "I am reporting a negative experience at a Durham Safelite AutoGlass (3602 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd), citing issues with payment processing and the quality of windshield replacement. An employee Randy insisted on a second payment for a deductible despite the customer providing proof of the initial $100 charge and confirmation from a credit card representative during a three-way call! I am also reporting poor workmanship on the windshield installation, with black trimmings not properly secured. It is sticking out!
I had an awful experience - Randy did charging mismanagement & the technician poor workmanship. I am filing a complaint with Safelite and Geico regarding a very bad experience at Durham Safelite AutoGlass.
--1. Attempted Double-Charging & Harassment: At drop-off, Randy charged my credit card for my $100 Geico deductible. However, later over the phone Randy claimed he couldn't see the charge on his system and demanded a second $100 payment. I sent him a screenshot of my Cc charge, confirming the transaction. Despite showing him the screenshot of the charge, he refused to acknowledge it, claiming it was just a "hold." I even initiated a three-way call with my banks' credit card representative, who explicitly told Randy it was an approved, regular charge made by Safelite Autoglass, not "a hold", and that running it again would result in a duplicate charge! Randy responded by hanging up on us.
When I returned to the shop to pick up my car I provided a printed copy of my CC account showing the $100 approved charge. He did not look at it and threatened to send me to collections. When I asked for a manager's or supervisor’s name in order to address this serious matter, he threatened to call the police for trespassing.
-- 2. Substandard Repair Work: The windshield was not installed properly; the black trimmings along both sides are sticking out and not flush with the glass. Pictures taken and shown below. I had to involve the Durham Police Department (Officer D.G.) came out to document what happened and talked to Randy alone. The officer recorded what I told him in detail, saw the car and he even noted the repair looked like a "bad job." Randy told him the same things, that he cannot see the charge on his computer and this might be "a hold" and not a charge, and that he cannot give me a receipt. The police officer advised me to call the main Safelite customer care and Geico and tell them what happened and ask for a repair of their poor workmanship at another Safelite location.
-- 3. Lack of Professionalism: Randy, who claimed to be the manager, displayed bad customer service skills and technical incompetence. If a system fails (PC, software), the burden of proof should not fall on the customer to pay twice, to be charged twice and "ask for a refund later."! If they know that they have software issues, why do they not have a verification back up for charges?
I have documented the improper installation via photos and police video. I am notifying Geico and Safelite of this incident.
Be very careful out there in Durham! From a straightforward interaction for a car windshield replacement you might end up spending the whole day trying to prove to their employee that they charged your CC already and you'll be treated in the worst possible manner! I would not – not recommend the Durham Safelite Autoglass!" RM
