  WARNING: Poor communication and charged for an unsuccessful repair. I brought my 2017 VW Jetta (81,000 miles) to this Cottman location after another mechanic read four transmission-related codes and suggested a transmission specialist. The car was slipping only when accelerating from a complete stop. From the start, communication was extremely poor. I had to call repeatedly over several days to get updates on my vehicle. I was not proactively contacted at any point. On Monday, the manager (Jason) told me he was “fairly confident” that replacing both speed sensors and changing the transmission fluid would fix the issue. I was quoted $2,416, which I agreed to only because I was told this would resolve the problem. Two days later, after I again had to call for an update, I was told the repairs were completed — but the problem was not fixed at all. At that point, they began recommending a transmission rebuild. When I went in to retrieve my vehicle, I was still expected to pay the full amount for a repair that did not correct the issue. I disputed the charge in person and explained that I did not agree to pay thousands of dollars for a repair that failed. The invoice itself states that the repair “did not correct the problem.” Only a fraction of the charge was removed as “customer satisfaction,” and I was required to pay $1,580.30 to retrieve my still-broken car. I did not agree to pay for a diagnostic experiment — I agreed to pay for a repair. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this location.

  A few weeks ago, my minivan broke down outside my son’s school. I was lucky that Andrés was there to help us. He also recommended his shop, where they did an amazing job fixing our car’s transmission and getting it running perfectly. Jason, who works there, communicated with us very well and explained everything my minivan needed. I absolutely recommend this place. Thanks again!

  I had an excellent experience with Jason at Cottman Transmission. He was extremely thorough in explaining their transmission services in a way that made sense to someone like me with zero experience in this area. Even though I ultimately didn’t get any work done—not because of their prices, but because my vehicle simply wasn’t worth investing that amount into—Jason still took the time to go over multiple options, including financing, without any pressure at all. It’s clear why Cottman shows up first on Google and even in ChatGPT. The level of professionalism, honesty, and customer service Jason provided is rare. I’d recommend them to anyone needing transmission help in Charlotte.

  I wish I could give more than 5 stars. It’s never easy having your transmission go bad but Jason and the team at Cottman made the process of getting back on the road as smooth as possible. I didn’t have cash on hand but they were able to help me finance (through a 3rd party) my new transmission with monthly payments. My truck is running like new with a 3yr warranty for peace of mind. The turnaround time from the free inspection to getting back on the road was only 3 1/2 days. I’m so glad I chose Cottman and God forbid I ever have any drivetrain issues in the future, they are getting my business again. Jason and the Cottman team: Thank you so much for your outstanding work! The truck is running like new 💪🏻
