This garage opens early, 7:30. I run a mail route in Vilas in the mountains and I needed to get in early and get out so I could start my work. The front brakes were making a terrible sound and they said the piston was pushing into the rotor and that’s what caused the noise. I had the rotors replaced and everything else associated with the brake on those wheels. I had an oil change and new wipers installed. Everything works great. I didn’t get to work until after 11:00, but I was assisting another person and I was ok that day coming in late. I was not going to drive in the mountains with my brakes in such bad shape. People need to scrape their driveways and maintain them for delivery services coming to their house. I paid $650, but I cannot do that work myself and it had to be done today!

We stopped in accidentally actually. An auto parts store had recommended going to Mr. Tire in Boone, but not the one by Cracker Barrel. Mistakenly we showed up at that one. This Mr. Tire attempted to up sell a lot of items that we hadn't even originally came in for. We were charged 4 times more for an alternator than what one cost at four different parts stores online. They told us the very expensive one was the only one they could get.
We were passing through and had to do it.
There were a lot of college kids in there(mostly young ladies) having work done on vehicles, and I said to myself I sure hope that their fathers taught them to question everything and search out leads regarding mechanics and possibly being taken advantage of. I certainly hope this is not the case with Mr. tire in Boone, NC. The gals that worked the front desk were friendly. We had to wait well over 4 hours for an alternator change out and it would have been nice to receive a progress update occasionally. The guy who worked on the car was nice. The loud shop music stunk.
Sorry, I can not recommend this particular Mr. Tire.
Beware and shop wisely.

I genuinely would never recommend this place to anyone, regardless of what service you're looking to get done. I have had numerous complications from the work they have done on my vehicle, and each time I've gone back hoping they would fix it because parts were under warranty, but they just make it worse. I do not know what goes on back there but they have no idea what they are doing. They installed an alternator in my car that left all the lights on my dashboard lit up. I took it back several times and they said nothing was wrong and to ignore the lights. Long story short, I ended up stranded on the side of the road with a dead alternator, starter, and battery because the alternator they installed was faulty and the lights were in fact indication of a problem. I got new tires and paid for an alignment. A few days later I took it back because one of the tires sounded like it was wobbling while I drove. They said they must've not done an alignment (of which I paid for the first time) but would do it now. When I left the shop the second time, the sound was gone but I brought it to another shop and they said an alignment still was not done, so I have no idea what they were doing back there nor why they were charging me. I've taken it to other mechanics that can do the work for a fraction of the price, and do it correctly not to mention. I'm not one to ever leave a review but please save your money and your time, especially if you’re a college parent/student looking for a reliable place to work on your kid's/your vehicle.

Avoid any repair work because the estimate is grossly inflated. The part example I give below is more than TWICE what 3 auto parts dealers are selling it for!!
Part number 264-748 (Valve Cover): Part Cost
1 - Mr. Tire - $571.58
2 - Napa $276.99 (located right by Mr. Tire location)
2 - O'Reilly - $262.99
3 - Autozone - $282.99
4 - Advance Auto Parts - $281.99
5 - My Mechanic #1 - $274.95
6 - My Mechanic #2 - $250.63
I also had to question that the oil change I was being charged for actually happened since the oil would have had to be drained to do any of the repair work quoted.
They also have a high diagnostic fee which I have to pay despite the fact that they CANNOT do the work because a sticker on the bottom of my engine says that if they did the engine warranty would be voided. Mind you, we were not notified that they couldn't do the work until I called and told them I was picking up the vehicle.

I went in just to have my tire checked because I suspected a small leak and thought it might need to be plugged. I ended up waiting almost two hours, and only about 20 minutes before closing did they finally decide to look at my car. They rolled my tire out to show me a nail conveniently placed in a spot that “couldn’t be patched,” then told me it would cost $300 for one tire replacement.
While I was standing at the counter getting checked in, I overheard staff talking about another customer, saying they were going to change what was entered in the system to make it look like he came in for a different service and just refused everything else. That kind of conversation should never happen in front of customers.
Other people waiting were clearly frustrated too. One man was asked to check out even though his car hadn’t been touched after hours of waiting. When he pointed that out, they told him minutes later that his car was being worked on, but he looked outside and saw it was still sitting in the same place — they had taken another car instead of his. Another customer had almost the same experience I did; they rolled out his tire, showed a nail in nearly the exact same spot, and said it could easily be patched.
Someone else who had already paid for a repair was first told they could easily do it that day. After he paid, they changed their story and said they couldn’t do it after all, and he’d have to come back tomorrow. When he later asked for a refund after finding a cheaper option elsewhere, they told him they didn’t know how to process one and still told him to return the next day.
The front desk employee kept complaining about the phones ringing and how overwhelmed he was, even admitting at one point, “I don’t know what I’m doing.” Whether it’s poor training or disorganization, I’m not sure, but it was a complete mess.
I sat there for two hours just to be overcharged and watch chaos unfold around me. I do not recommend this place at all. Never again.
