About a month ago, my boyfriend and I went in to buy a battery and after describing the issue, the lady at the register told us it could be the alternator. She brought her tool out to our car to check but our battery had already died again and then without having even been able to check and make sure, she began insisting that it was the alternator and that we should buy an alternator. We debated and decided to just get the battery because our symptoms didn't add up to a bad alternator. Even after changing the battery out, the lady told us that when the battery drains to come back and get an alternator and had us speak with someone who could change it. It has been a month and the battery is still working completely fine, the alternator is fine. The store clerk insisted that we had a more expensive issue without even checking in order to get more money out of us. If you do shop here, would recommend caution when listening to their advice.

As a single mom I loved the Advance Auto I used to go to in South Carolina because they were always very helpful! I know very little about cars and they would show me what I needed to unhook to get in the front to change bulbs (wouldn't do it themselves but that's understandable) I've gone to this one twice: the first time they gave me the wrong part and the second time the guy wouldn't even show me how to get to the back bulbs to change them out. I got an "all cars are different, good luck" and they sent me on my way. I'll find somewhere else to find parts.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?
Expand FAQ item
Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
