- HJHerb JohnsonJun 8, 20251.0DO NOT BUY CARQUEST OIL FILTERS Let me preface by saying the staff were friendly and helpful on the phone and in person. No problem there, BUT... Bought a carquest brand oil filter and it was GARBAGE that didn't seal correctly, leaking a whole fresh change worth of oil on the ground. Had a Wix filter in before (nowhere in town had it in stock.) The difference in quality is NIGHT AND DAY. WIX is heavy, with a thick O-ring, and descernable internal components. The Carquest brand filter is like a pop can loosely stuffed with cotton, and a newspaper rubber band for an O-Ring. Sure enough, I pulled the 2x thicker O-ring off the old Wix filter and it stopped the leak. The carquest O-Ring literally wasn't thick enough to compress and seal against the filter. What a joke. Worst part? It costs EXACTLY the same as a WIX filter, for 1/10th the quality. I wouldn't trust one on my lawnmower. Thanks to that absurdly low quality, I'm out $35 for the carquest filter... out another $35 to replace it with a WIX... out $50 in oil on the ground... That's $120 and a couple hours of my time down the toilet. ITS A MIRARCLE I checked for oil leaks after running the engine for a few minutes or I'd be out an engine. Because I don'talways, check, since in 20 years of changing oil, I've never had a oil filter fail straight out of the box. Lesson learned. Wait for a WIX or pay dearly with a Carquest offbrand filter.

Lack one big star because occasionally their website pulls up parts that don't fit the vehicle, requiring part matching, and or reordering, and more waiting time. Sad waste of time.
