I'm writing to commend the outstanding service I received at Volvo West County STL, particularly from Greg.
My S90 Volvo was struck while parked. Following repairs at a collision shop, they incorrectly concluded that my subsequent engine light issues were unrelated to the accident.
Upon towing my vehicle to your dealership, Greg and the Volvo team swiftly and expertly identified that the engine light problem was, in fact, a direct result of the collision. Their thoroughness and diligent communication with the insurance company ensured all necessary repairs were covered and completed flawlessly.
Thank you, Greg, and the entire Volvo West County STL team, for your exceptional professionalism and for resolving this challenging situation.
Sincerely,
Synobia Cogshell
Tom with West County Volvo provided excellent customer service from start to finish! He not only helped me find the perfect car, but was also incredibly attentive to my needs and made the entire process seamless. The salesperson can truly make or break the car-buying experience, and Tom’s expertise and commitment to his customers absolutely made the difference—he definitely closed the deal. Highly recommend working with him!
We purchased a certified preowned 2020 XC60 T8 inscription in mid June 2025 for $32k plus tax and an extended warranty, with about 42k miles on it. Before we could take it home, it needed one of the six battery cells replaced, which took a couple weeks before we could pick it up (on 25 June). The salesman, Tom Calkins, assured us that it would be a quick and easy fix under warranty.
On August 18, another cell failed and the car was inoperable. Neither volvo or the dealership were willing to do anything more than replace that faulty cell, which was backordered. We were finally able to pick the car up on the 11th of September and it ran fine until the 14th of January, when another cell failed. It is still in the shop as of the 26th of March. The service department told me that the necessary part is on indefinite back order and it is a nationwide issue.
In mid-February I asked the dealership’s buying manager (Sam Bruen) to buy the XC60 back. Sam actually said to me, “I don’t even want this car” and mentioned that they’d had problems with them, but he would be willing to trade it for something. Otherwise his offer was 22k.
While I was there that day, I saw Tom selling a t8 XC90 to a young man and his family.
I called back on the 26th of march to take Sam up on his offer, but he refused to buy it at all until it was fixed (though he would have traded for it, he said!). I mentioned the t8 I saw sold in February and he said they’d replaced the entire battery pack in that car before selling it! He blamed volvo for not handling my warranty rather than taking care of a customer who got burned.
Why was I sold this car to begin with, if there are problems of this severity with the model? Why was Tom able to sell a supposedly fixed T8 in February while mine was in the shop for the same issue? Why isn’t volvo, or the dealership, handling this and taking care of their customers?
WC Volvo needs to buy this car back.
