I had it installed Voluntarily and it's been a complete nightmare. Defected equipment that locked up days after being installed. I was unable to operate my car. Unable to get help from the dealer, I called them, and they told me to call Intoxalock customer service. Which I did, and my car is still locked down. I'm being asked to pay for a tow back to the dealers auto shop. No one really explained the lock out to me.The device wasn't even plugged in all the way, and sounds a loud alarm distracting you while driving. I suppose I brought this on myself. But its sucks to be going through this.
Edit: I was contacted after I left my review. I had a new device mailed to me. I only had to pay $35 and mail back the defective device. Now everything is working okay. I still have a gps device with exposed wires hanging from under my steering wheel. But I havent had any problems. This is voluntarily and temporary, so I'm just gonna hang in there.

Terrible experience got a bid and set an appointment. Waited two days. Then when I brought it in couple hours later, they call me back and more than double the price. They said they thought a minivan and it was a full-size van so I would’ve appreciated paying something extra, but over 100% that’s bull.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
