This is literally extortion. I had nothing but problems with them and I live in the country so when their device failed I had to tow my car 40 miles and they say that they reimburse up to 100 dollars but I never saw it and the fees for everything is ridiculous. I'm all for the actual purpose of the device I messed up and earned that but being a single parent trying to provide for just the three of us and pay all these outlandish costs then anther 275 to close it out and 140 to uninstall which I watched and it took him 5 minutes. Plus I had all kinds of electrical issues with the thing and he confirmed it wasn't done properly and the wires were shorting out my cars system and draining the battery which caused a lockout and subsequent towing ($340) to change out the handheld. Then i set up a payment plan for the closeout cost and they are continually trying to take the full amount while I'm making payments. This company is just a money pit. I had this place install my interlock a few months ago. Worst decision ever! Not only did they over charge me, I was told by Intoxalock that the install would be no more than $100-$150. Transmaster charged me $300. They did not install this correctly. They used the incorrect wire size and cut wires they should not have. I have had nothing but issues with my car since they did the install. I had a new starter installed due to the issues starting my car and that was never the issue. Yesterday my car absolutely would not start. I had to have it towed to another Intoxalock installer who had to rewire the whole thing to fix the mistakes made by Transmaster. Do not use Transmaster for your Intoxalock! Intoxalock needs to be more particular about who they allow to install their devices.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
