I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my visit to Valvoline Instant Oil Change on Friday morning, January 2nd.
When I first arrived, I went inside to ask a few questions about services and whether you accept Groupon. A young blonde female employee rushed over to stop me. While she answered my questions, her demeanor made it clear that I was bothering her and that she was unhappy to be assisting a customer.
Once I declined additional services, I immediately felt that the overall tone and quality of my experience went downhill. From that point forward, the service felt rushed, less attentive, and noticeably different.
When I pulled my vehicle in, I clearly stated that I did not want my air filters checked, as they are difficult to access and I prefer to purchase them elsewhere. I did, however, ask that normal top-side service still be completed, and the technician agreed. Despite this, I had to remind the staff to complete the top-side service before I left, which should not be the customer’s responsibility.
I was also told that there was corrosion on the positive side of my battery and that it would be cleaned and sprayed with a protective coating. However, my oil change was completed extremely quickly, and only one technician was working on my vehicle. Based on how fast the service was, it is difficult to believe that the battery corrosion was properly cleaned and treated as described.
Additionally, I was told that my battery could not be tested because of the corrosion, which further raises concerns about the accuracy and consistency of the information I was given.
The oil was also not drained from the bottom of the vehicle, which is my preference, as I do not like oil being suctioned out from the top.
At one point, I stepped out of my car briefly to refill my water bottle and was asked, “Where are you going, boss?” This comment was unprofessional and made me uncomfortable.
As I was leaving, I was told to come back to have my maintenance light reset—something that should have been handled during the service.
All of this occurred during an $85 oil change, which is not inexpensive. For that price, I expect professional behavior, consistent service regardless of whether I decline add-on services, and honesty and accuracy in the work being performed and explained.
Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience, and it has shown a clear lack of attention to customer service and quality at this location.
