I have been getting my car service here for years. I have had great service and communication in the past. Izaiah is a gem. However this time, my car had to be kept overnight to complete a recall service. I asked for a loaner, one was not available. The next day there was zero communication about the status of my service. I called on day 3 and left a message in the morning. By the afternoon still no communication, so I called again and I am then informed of my vehicle status. It was an inconvenience to not have a car for three days with zero help and bad communication from the service department. I was told my service advisor was out sick, obviously no one picked up the outstanding tasks.

TLDR summary: We are happy with our new VW purchase and would buy from them again. 2 reasons we went here: they had the car we wanted in the color we wanted; lowest online price. 2 small regrets: they had already sold our color; our negotiation skills are seriously lacking! We regret not checking local car/color inventory before our visit. The other Bommarito VW near STL had 2. Oops! But sometimes things happen for a reason. We are happy we gave Sean and Kevin our business. Our sales pro Sean Trapp made us feel like he was our advocate. He greeted us immediately, made us feel welcome, took us on a thorough test drive, answered all of our questions honestly, and gave us a form showing the sales price (gross was without mfr’s rebate, minus rebate, minus trade - net price was online price minus trade). Maybe we should’ve tried to negotiate, but it seemed fair. Our finance manager Kevin Jackson was also very friendly, but the FM is always the stressful part. He is the dealership’s advocate (his job is to increase profit… and he did do his job, albeit not too brutally). Admin fee was $599 (a few $ shy of the legal max in MO). 1% instead of 0% VW financing in lieu of rebate. No doubt extra profit. We opted to keep the mfr’s rebate, so APR was higher (~1.5 pts higher than our bank). Kevin told us non-dealer financing would add $1k to the price. That’s pretty normal. No prepayment penalty, so we still have options for a future re-fi (especially if interest rates continue to drop). Sales tax wasn’t included (which was a first out of many car purchases). Glad we noticed. A >$2k additional surprise expense would’ve been unpleasant, to say the least. Kevin did fess up and explain that it’s still legal in MO. Perhaps there is already a new law in effect; but, if not, any MO dealer can and will do it… so buyer beware. Kevin kept assuring us that we didn’t have to choose any of the dealer add-ons, but each time we said “no” he just restarted his sales pitch. We finally agreed to GAP insurance. I think it’s a total waste of money, but my husband gave in (we live in the city – theft rates are quite high). We can cancel with a $50 fee and a prorated refund would go toward our loan. Our insurance carrier only offers GAP coverage if they finance the vehicle also. We will likely cancel after a year. Kevin captured so many digital signatures and then sent us home with a USB drive (no physical paperwork). This seemed a little scary – perhaps we are too trusting. Maybe it’s industry standard now, as it has been a while since we purchased a car. It did leave us feeling quite vulnerable. It didn’t help that the waiting period for all the paperwork took longer because of the holidays; it was a stressful 3 weeks! We did finally hear from the credit union and successfully titled and registered our new VW today. All’s well that ends well. The dealer’s extended service contract (free) is nice in theory. Based on the service reviews, we may end up going to another VW dealer for service. Sean told us their service department has improved since a lot of those reviews were posted. We will see how it goes. We read reviews before our visit; the extended service did not factor into our decision to buy from them. If we are able to take advantage of this service, it’ll be a welcomed bonus. We have no experience with other STL area dealerships, but they’re all pretty much the same wherever you live. Kevin was no worse than any other FM we’ve dealt with. We’ve purchased at least 1 vehicle in 6 different states now. It’s always a stressful experience. Ultimately, we LOVE our new VW and are happy with our new car purchase experience at Bommarito VW Hazelwood. We would buy from them again. :)

If you value transparency, accountability, and basic customer service, I strongly recommend choosing a different VW dealership. I dropped off my car a day early, as suggested by the dealership, for rust damage on the roof that is covered under the VW warranty. The service manager set the expectation that the repair would likely take two days and that we would have the car back shortly after. The following day, we were told that the VW warranty approval process was taking longer than expected and that we would be contacted with an updated timeline. Unfortunately, that call never came. Over the next several days, we repeatedly tried to reach the service team, only to be sent to voicemail or told someone would call us back—which never happened. Five days later, we still had not received a single proactive update on our vehicle. This lack of communication and follow-through is extremely disappointing, especially when clear expectations were set upfront and then ignored. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. We experienced similar issues when purchasing our car from this dealership as well. There seems to be a pattern of setting false expectations and failing to deliver or communicate.

Les Johnson at Bommarito Volkswagen in Hazelwood was AMAZINg!! After multiple failed and unsuccessful visits to two other VW dealers, I was done with VW. However, on a whim and an impending trip to STL, I thought I would try one last time to see if we could make mutually agreeable terms with VW. So I phoned Bommarito, got Les on the phone and told him exactly what I wanted. The deal was done through text, email and phone calls! We drove up two days later and signed paperwork. He was pleasant and professional but personable through the whole deal. All other staff was great too! And we drove off with exactly what I wanted for the price I wanted!! If you want a great experience with a successful deal, call Les at Bommarito!!

I recently bought a used Subaru from this location and absolutely love it! Miguel was great to work with! He aired up the tires, had the car cleaned and ready to go, they fixed a scratch at no additional cost and threw in a new safety and emissions inspection. The only thing I was a little disappointed in is they wouldn’t hold the vehicle for a day or two even with a down payment (when getting outside financing). I understand the reasoning but that made the experience a little more stressful. We also had a decent wait to get in with the finance manager for the temp tags. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase and would be willing to come back in the future!
