For the Tesla owners. The car still works ok and gets me from a to b. But I will say for a company (Intoxalock) that brags on their website about being compatible with electric vehicles I would say I don’t recommend having one installed on a Tesla. First.. the device makes it so that when the car is doing an update (frequently and takes an hour or more sometimes) you must be in the car and ready to blow to avoid having any issues. Second..the app and phone key can’t be used. So that means no warming up your car. No unlocking your doors when you walk up or remotely. No summon. When you use a supercharger you can’t see what it cost you anywhere but in the car itself and you can’t keep an eye on your charge time. There are a few more issues I’m sure I’m forgetting and I will update this when I can. But being that Intoxalock brags about working on electric cars they should definitely look into other ways to make the device work with the car. It would not be difficult to have the device still prevent the vehicle from driving without the test. But making all the other functions that are the reason many drive this car still work. And being one of the electric cars that have been around the longest and most mass produced it is shocking to me that they can’t make it function with the car better.
Do better Intoxalock.

During this embarrassing time of having to have an ignition interlock system installed. (By these folks btw.) Every interaction I've had dealing with both the device and regular mechanical work. I've only ever gotten smiles and great attitude and attention from the folks that work here. CLASS ACT.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.
