  I cannot say enough good things about this garage and all of the people that work there… they were recommended to me by a mechanic friend of mine, who was working on a car I bought from him for many years, but that car in particular ended up being involved in a small accident that caused a lot of body damage and because the car was so old and had such high mileage. He told me it really wasn’t worth fixing. So I ended up inheriting a car from my mom and she could no longer drive, but the thing is it was impossible for me to keep going to my regular mechanic because his garage is so far away from where I live— It just wasn’t feasible for me to keep traveling that far because I had trouble even getting rides back to my house when my car was being worked on because he would usually work on it on the weekends in a spare time and I couldn’t afford to be without a car for that long so he said the only place he could recommend to me was Gearheads. he literally said if he had to have anyone other than himself work on his cars that’s where he would take it and so I made an appointment with them and I told him to look the car over from head to toe so I decide, I needed to know where the car was at. I knew it needed a lot of work but some of the work I wasn’t quite sure what that would be I just knew that it wasn’t handling correctly. I brought it in, they had a quote for me the same day and even though they did a lot of work I had my car back on the third day, which is good for such a small garage. They are friendly, they are professional, they will go out of their way to accommodate you if they can, and we all know how hard it is to find good honest work out there whether it’s a contractor or a mechanic or a handyman or you never know what you’re gonna get… But if you give these guys a try, I would be shocked to hear anything other than it being in all around, just positive experience. I don’t know about you, but at the end of the day, knowing that your car is safe and it’s been worked on by professionals that were honest with you, their prices were competitive with other garages in the area, and I’ll keep supporting this business from here on out… I am so glad I took the advice and took my car there. I also love the fact that this is an independently owned business, so if you live in the area, you’re supporting a local business, which is a dying concept in this country nowadays, so that was another reason that I’m so pleased with the work they did because I would much rather be giving my money to a small independently run business than a big chain that a lot of times unless you’re a mechanic yourself or no cars, you’re walking out of there not even knowing if you got what you paid for, and that is not the case would be good these guys.

  Gearhead Auto was so helpful with my broken car! They were quick to diagnose the problem, quick to fix it, and very honest about the longevity of the car. They don't fix random stuff just to get your money, they're very honesy and dependable and I'll be returning if I ever have any issues.

  Gearhead gets my highest rating. Let me tell you why. A few weeks back, my daughter, an ASU student, called from her apartment to tell me that her car, a 2011 Hyundai Tucson, was making a strange noise. She sent me a recording of it. It was a low, cyclic rumbling sound while cruising along. She said it stopped when she pressed on the brakes. She was worried because she was planning on driving to LA with her boyfriend. I had her drive down to Chandler and follow me down to Sun Devil Auto near my house, where I had been taking my cars for oil changes etc for a year or so. I described the noise to the Sun Devil guy (I will leave out the name) and told him the noise stopped when you press on the brakes. He called me later and said I needed to have the transmission rebuilt. Cost: $4,000. There was no way I was going to do that. The car had 100,000 miles on it and was only worth $5,000, if it was running good. I would go pick it up. Fine. I took a wild stab online looking for another option. I never heard of Ray or his Gearhead shop. But it was in Chandler. I called. He was personable, matter-of-fact, no nonsense, and sounded like a straight shooter. I told him what Sun Devil said. He was suspicious. He said he could get me a used tranny for $2400. It had 54,000 miles on it and had a one year guarantee. That was at least doable. He said to bring the car in to get it checked out. It was a five mile drive. All the time going there, the noise was very bad. I was afraid the tranny might seize up. But every time I pressed on the brakes, the noise went away. Otherwise, it seemed fine. Ray’s shop didn’t look like much. I was a little worried if I made the right choice. But Ray immediately put me at ease. He has a confident, low key kinda way about him that is reassuring. I told him about the brakes making the noise go away. Right off, he said, “Let’s take it for a ride.” So we did. He heard the noise. It was coming from behind the driver’s side fire wall. I asked him what the brakes had to do with the transmission. He was blunt, “Nothing.” He asked me to leave it with him to check out. I told him I had to take an Uber back to Sun Devil to get my car. He offered to drive me back. That was pretty cool. It was the middle of his working day and he drove me back. The next morning, Ray called. I immediately told him something I had forgotten. Two weeks previous to this, I took that car to Sun Devil for an oil change. They gave me the results of their famous 52 point inspection. A ton of things wrong. Lots of money. Ridiculous. But one item, thin front brake pads was a concern. I told Ray I had them replace the pads. Ray said, “I know. We saw that. That’s what I wanted to tell you. The problem is not the transmission. It’s the front brakes. We took the driver’s side wheel off and everything was loose. The rotor, the caliper, the pads the lug nuts. They didn’t tighten it up. My guy spent a couple hours taking both sides apart and put it back together. There’s no noise now. It’ll cost you $200.” (There’s no way Sun Devil could not have known about the loose brakes. They stuck me for new drive axle ($628); said it was needed for their analysis of the tranny. You have to take the wheel off to replace the axle. It was a sacm.) Ray could have stuck me with the used tranny. I would have never known the difference. But he was honest. And he might have saved my daughter’s life; that wheel could have flown off on the freeway. It was the happiest $200 I ever spent. The car runs perfectly. This is why I give Ray five stars.

  Very honest and good work! The team took great care of my vehicle and made the whole process easy from start to finish. They explained everything clearly, didn’t try to upsell unnecessary services, and made sure I understood exactly what was being done. It’s hard to find a shop you can really trust, but I feel confident bringing my vehicle here knowing they stand behind their work.
