Advanced auto emailed me a Christmas coupon for 20% off a $100 or more online purchase.......perfect timing. Ordered the new alternator, got $47 off, and the new unit came with lifetime warranty. This must be what winning feels like!! Order was ready for pickup within 30 minutes. Super friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Not knowing exactly what I needed, I went to the Schoenherr location but first spoke to Brad on the phone who was very helpful. When I went to the store I was helped by Kelli who explained all the differences in parts and made recommendations that made sense. I then decided to buy all the parts and Kelli, and the manager Charlie, helped get the parts sent to the store for me to pick up and gave good pricing. I was very impressed. Kelli took a lot of time in helping me and I felt the service was excellent. I have never bought from Advance Auto before but this experience definitely will bring me back. I hope Kelli, Brad and Charlie receive some well deserved recognition...!

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
