VETERAN at 3 AutoZones on VETERANS DAY I get to South Haven AutoZone about 4 on Friday for back brake pads and caliper turn down tool. The pads fine but tool has to be picked up in Holland at 32nd street AutoZone. Ok, pay South Haven and pick up in Holland, good team work. So I get home to put the pads on my daughter in laws car, pull off a wheel and find out the caliper is shot. I see online South Haven has no calipers, 32nd street AutoZone is the closest to me that does. Great Internet information. While buying it, now after 6:00 Saturday night I start worrying that the other caliper is going to be bad too. They have one of both sides but upon inspection the RH is missing the slides. I told her I would like to take it anyway because I can always put in the old slides and worry about new ones next week. She said ok so I asked her to sign the receipt saying that the slides weren't in the box. That way if I didn't need the caliper I could return it without being asked where the slides are. She was great for me in a real pinch I get home and when I got to the other side the caliper there was bad too, I had to use both the new calipers, the one with and the one without the slides. So the following week, on Veterans Day, I look on AutoZone's handy online inventory to find a store with a RH caliper there that can take back the rental caliper tool, pay me back my two calipers core deposits, and give me the slides that were missing from the RH box. ENTER HOLLAND CHICAGO DRIVE AUTOZONE: I put the tool case and both caliper boxes on the counter open for inspection, the LH one with the worn slides to demonstrate them missing from the RH box. First he is unable to find the tool on my receipt, when I point it out he says oh, it was a pickup, I tell him yes, because South Haven sent me to Holland 32nd street for it. That's when he tells me to always come to Chicago Drive AutoZone because the rentals are cleaner and they have the best service. Then he says that calipers aren't supposed to come with slides, with the example right in front of him. I asked him to get one and open it up because it will have slides. it did So I asked him for the slides showing him the signed receipt stating the clips were missing from the one I bought. He says no, but that he would trade the one I bought without clips for a new one with clips to solve the problem. I told him that made no sense but ok as long as I am getting the slides. So he does a return and gives me the new one instead of a refund. He slides it across the counter to me, I take the slides out, put them in my pocket, and push the box back to him and ask for my core deposit back. He goes so now you don't want it? Then I have to try to explain a new one is on the car and I just want the slides I paid for. This guy is trying to give me a whole another caliper. I thought he could notice that the caliper I brought was already the core because of its distinct condition. So now that he finally realized what I was asking for he took the brand new one back as my core return. Then I asked for front brake rotors and pads, great sale buy rotors and get pads free. He got rotors then pads. I asked him if slides come with the pads, he said no they only come with calipers. I told him that it's kind of hard to believe they don't sell the slides in a hardware kit. He said he couldn't find them in the computer. So I go I thought you told me that this was the only parts store I would have to go to, then he said that he didn't think my jokes were funny and that if I didn't change my attitude I could just leave without him doing the transaction for me. I told him I was stunned and didn't know what to say. He told me to leave. I went back to 32nd street AutoZone and bought the brake pads and rotors there. I appreciate the respectful treatment I enjoyed both at South Haven and 32nd street, and hope Chicago Drive can tolerate Veterans, on Veterans Day, by at least not throwing them out of the place in front of everyone.
