Run far and fast from this company. They are thieves. I have had the device installed for 4 months and have had 3 violations due to their defective equipment. They knew about the defective device but still sent a missed retest violation to the SOS costing me my license for 2 months until I was able to get a hearing to explain what happened. They even admitted that they could see there was nobody in the vehicle when the device was going off asking for a retest. Not only did I lose my license but intoxalock also charged me $75 to reset my device each time it gave me a violation and the shop charged another $30 each time even though intoxalock was aware of the defective equipment. They also force you to use auto pay, once you give them a debit/credit card number there is no way to stop the auto payments. Their "customer service" is not in the United States either. Every time I have had to call they are extremely rude and most of the time it is very hard to understand them. Do not believe the sales team, they will make all kinds of promises (lies) to get you hooked then switch it all up once you get the device installed. Once you have the device installed you can no longer speak to the sales team that made all the promises. When you call the number you spoke to them on it reroutes you to an automated answering app that makes it very difficult to speak to an actual person and when you do get someone on the line it's the customer service people in the Philippines or Pakistan. Go with Smart Start or any other company, you will get ripped off and possibly lose your license too if you go with intoxalock.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
