  I have been renting from National for years. This last week was the first time I felt their customer service lacked. I showed up Tuesday to pick up a car for a week. Apparently when I cancelled a different reservation, it all cancelled this reservation. They said they were sold out and there was NOTHING they could do. They suggested for to Avis. So I did. That was awful. I rented from National the next day. They had a ton of cars. I picked it up at 5 am. So I'm sure they could have given me a car on Tuesday. ARG!

  This is not a negative against National Car Rental or the employees. However, I rented a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and the cruise control never worked because there was a problem with the radar. I drove many miles last week in Michigan and not having cruise control was not acceptable. I'm unaware of the service that is performed on these vehicles, but I will never select this same car in the future. I reported the problem to the attendant when I dropped it off.

  My rental experience with National at DTW was good, but just shy of great. Here’s why: Instructions on picking up the rental and where the rental location was at the airport was below expectations. The rental car area at DTW is a mile long bus ride from the terminal. Worked fine but confusing at first. Language in the app instructed to go a location and the rental desk would be there, however that led me to the bus stop to take me to the rental facility. Confusing and could used clarity and more detailed instructions. Additionally, when instructed on which cars I could choose from I received conflicting information from employees. Both employees had access to my reservation information but offered different answers to which car I was able to choose from. I believe James was correct, while Mr. Mike’s instruction sounded more like a suggestion. Mr. Mike acted as a gatekeeper to the lot, so I shared with him what James at the counter instructed me. Mr. Mike reviewed my paperwork and led with “I would say you can choose…” Sounded like an unsure suggestion rather than a confident answer aligned with James answer, company policy, and my reservation information. I think communication and process could be enhanced there.

  I have consistently had positive experiences with National Rental. The team is always professional, courteous, and genuinely helpful, which makes the rental process smooth and efficient every time. I truly appreciate the level of customer service they provide. The only area where I have noticed some decline is in the availability and variety of vehicles within the Executive Selection. I frequently look for SUVs or trucks, but often find that the options are limited to minivans or coupes. Expanding the selection of SUVs and trucks would greatly enhance the experience for customers with those needs. Overall, National continues to deliver excellent service, and I value the professionalism of their staff.

  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an excellent experience with National Car Rental at DTW Airport! The service was amazing from start to finish, and the team was professional, friendly, and efficient throughout the entire process. What really stood out was how quickly they responded to any issues that came up. Everything was handled promptly and smoothly, which made my travel experience completely stress-free. It’s clear they truly care about their customers and go the extra mile to make things right. Highly recommend renting from this location if you’re flying through DTW — I’ll definitely be using National again! Thank you personally to Matt and Moe who truly elevated the experience to a new level!!!
