So far terrible experience! I was lied to, they took more money out of my bank account than what was agreed on and next to impossible to get ahold of someone once you purchase and when you do get ahold of somebody there overseas and you can’t understand them!!! Once you purchase they will not let you talk to the person/facility you originally called stating “it’s because it’s state regulated and that won’t be possible ”. You will spend a lot of time on the phone getting nothing accomplished!!! *******Update ******12-31-24******customer service does not listen to you, they instruct you improperly how to use the device and I was told my account was being credited till Feb 3rd and was just informed today only till Jan 20th!!! I don’t even get my hearing from Secretary of State till Jan 28th. Being lied to by intoxalock is the reason I haven’t it installed on my vehicle even though I’m not driving yet. I was contacted by “Isaiah” and he is the one who credited my account with the condition I change this review (prior to this update) and I’m glad I waited to because more issues ! ——EXCLUSIVE SOUNDS—— instructs you on how to use the device differently than intoxalock does which leaves room for error and nothing but problems for the customer!!!!!!!!!!! If you want hassles and to be light headed from blowing into the device so many times for just one B.A.C. test go to Exclusive sounds and Intoxalock!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a review in dealing with Intoxalock. Not the local provider who installed the device. It’s an awful company as far as customer service. I had to have my engine replaced in my car. Reported the maintenance to Intoxalock. During the maintenance the device was disconnected. When I contacted Intoxalock I was treated as a criminal. Then transferred to someone who said he would waive the reinstallation fees. Didn’t happen. So had to pay for a whole new reinstall which is over 400 dollars. And was charged the disconnect fee for the initial device! Called customer rep again who said she would see if I can be refunded any part and would hear within 48 hours. That was last week. Avoid this company if you can. Everything is outsourced and everyone in the first tier of customer service is awful. Use a different ignition lock device. Promises are not kept and nothing seems to be recorded and tracked with their “customer service”.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.
Where do I get an ignition interlock device?
Ignition interlock devices can be installed at certified service centers nationwide. Intoxalock offers a convenient network of locations and helps you schedule an installation appointment near you. Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. However, the vehicle owner must provide consent for the installation. Intoxalock works with you and the owner to ensure compliance with state regulations and the successful setup of the device.
