I WAS PROFILED AND DISRESPECTED AS A TRANSGENDER WOMAN AND MEMBER OF THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY BY ENTERPRISE !!!
I have rented from Enterprise on numerous occasions over the past several years. Yesterday I went to pick up a rental car from the Waterford Michigan location and was disrespected because I am a transgender. I was told that my appearance, address, and driver’s license didn’t match my profile, yet I have maintained my appearance, identity, identification, and address for the past several years and rented from Enterprise on numerous occasions with no issues. I was asked to provide unusual proofs of identity and residency that had never been requested in the past and that nobody would likely be carrying with them when they rent a car (such as Utility Bills). I explained that I had never been treated this way or asked for such unusual pieces of identification at Enterprise or any other establishment and had rented numerous times over the past several years at that location and the Auburn Hills location. I expressed that nobody caries utility bills with them, and even offering my drivers license, social security, and items with my name and address, such as vehicle registration, car insurance, medical insurance, AAA card, and bank account apps, all with my name and address, I was continually told none of that would be sufficient without utility bills, and was turned down without being provided a vehicle.
I then reserved a vehicle at the Auburn Hills Michigan location, and was treated with even greater disrespect when I went there, with the Enterprise representative very coincidentally using the exact same statements. I am quite certain, based on being treated the same way at both locations, that the representative at the Waterford location called the Auburn Hills location and they CONSPIRED TO CONTINUE THEIR DISCRIMINATION.
For almost 3 years, I have been doing home care for my 84 year old mother who suffers from bone cancer, and just as the previous times I rented a vehicle over the past few years, it w because I need a vehicle so that I can tend to her needs and get her to doctor appointments when our vehicle is in for repairs and service.
THE TREATMENT I RECEIVED AS A TRANSGENDER FROM ENTERPRISE WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE TO ENDURE; IT WAS UNEXCUSEABLE, UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISRESPECTFUL.

I had a very frustrating experience at this Enterprise location. My reservation was canceled last minute with little to no communication, leaving me scrambling for another option. What’s even more disappointing is that no one bothered to hear my side or properly look into the situation before making their decision.
I’ll admit when I’m wrong, but professionalism goes both ways. Instead of handling things respectfully, I felt judged and dismissed. It seemed like assumptions were made without any real investigation, and customer service was the last thing on their mind.
Situations like this could easily be avoided with better communication and basic courtesy. I expected much more from a company like Enterprise, but this experience was stressful, inconvenient, and completely unnecessary. I hope management takes the time to improve how they treat their customers so no one else has to deal with this.
I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Enterprise Rent-A-Car was so frustrating and disappointing that I feel obligated to warn others. After waiting an entire week for a rental, I showed up expecting a smooth and professional process. Instead, I was met with poor customer service, dismissive staff, and a complete lack of urgency or respect for my time.
From the moment I walked in, I felt like I wasn’t being treated the same as other customers. The employees were unhelpful, gave little to no clear explanation, and made the entire process unnecessarily difficult. Despite doing everything required on my end, I was ultimately unable to rent a vehicle. Watching how differently others were treated around me made the situation even more upsetting, and I left genuinely questioning whether discrimination — and possibly racism — played a role in how I was handled.
What made this situation even more stressful is that I’m not from this state and urgently needed transportation to get back home. That rental vehicle was my only reliable option, and being denied after waiting a full week left me stranded and scrambling to figure out another way back. The lack of empathy and understanding from the staff only made an already difficult situation worse.
For a company of this size and reputation, professionalism, fairness, and respectful treatment should be the standard — not the exception. Waiting a full week for a rental only to be denied and treated this way is completely unacceptable and caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience during an already challenging situation.
Unfortunately, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. I will not be returning, and I strongly encourage others to consider alternative rental companies to avoid the frustration and disappointment I experienced. Enterprise seriously needs to reevaluate how they treat their customers and ensure that situations like this do not continue to happen.
