Intoxalock does not properly inform its customers of the proper requirements when the customer has a violation that is from state to state.
I will now be required to have the interlock device in my vehicle two years longer because they did not upload my readings to my residing state even though I informed them of this from the very beginning.
I was being require to report to two states.
Customers do not know the laws and legality of the process for which the readings and uploads are, We are at their mercy and have to believe what they tell us and believe that it is true.
I will now have to spend thousands more dollars to them as I have to change my machine to one that meets my states requirements after they installed one that did not. All while they knew I need to report to my home state.
I have requested copies of my reading to bring along with me to my RMV appeal hearing for my state and they refuse to give me a copy without paying for them. Another hundreds of dollars!! I feel as thought this is the least they could do for me after being mislead and having to continue to pay them for two more years longer than I should have to.
Please be aware!!
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
