Advanced Auto lent me an OBD-II scanner to identify the problem, and when the electrical system coincidentally shut down, tried to help me find the right replacement battery. That didn't work out because the Hyundai Ioniq apparently uses a proprietary battery (aargh). In any case, a big shout-out to Matt for all of his assistance and pleasant conversation. Great location.

I had a battery wiring issue assumed it was a starter problem and that it was necessary to buy a jumper kit but Matt was able to come out and fix the battery wiring right in the parking lot as well as take the time to explain step by step what was failing! He was so kind about it as well and stated that he didn’t want me to spend money on something I didn’t need to buy such as the jumper kit. It’s really rare to find a store now where the end goal isn’t just to make a buck and turn the other way. Won’t be shopping anywhere else from now on they know what they’re doing and care about the customer. Thank you Matt!

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
