I got my windshield replaced on my Subaru Crosstrek about a year ago. They could not give me an exact time for an appointment, so I had to leave it for half the day rather than wait on it. I did not initially see how poor the installation was, but later on a passenger pointed out spots around the inside of the windshield where the caulk was missing and the plastic of the interior appeared broken. The caulk was also not even applied to the outside of the windshield, and the plastic covers in the engine bay were not properly installed either.
About a year later and I am sitting in a different auto glass shop who is replacing my windshield; the glass tech at the shop I am at now pointed out multiple problems with the installation and said the crack was definitely caused by improper installation.
Edit:
For clarification, the windshield had been cracked underneath of the windshield wiper for quite some time (the crack is on the inside of the glass and not caused by an impact), I just finally got around to getting it fixed as I will be shipping my car and it is required to be fixed before shipping it.
In addition to what was previously mentioned, the new windshield technician that fixed my windshield and all of the deficiencies of the improper installation also noted that the technician at Smith Auto must not have known how to take off the plastic cover at the bottom of the windshield in the engine bay, because they broke every single one of the plastic clips that holds it on (which explains why I was unable to get it to stay down when I realize how bad the installation was).
Furthermore, less than a month after getting my windshield replaced by Smith Auto, my car started to develop a mildew smell after rain (which had never happened before).
