My wife and I both work at UMMC and have had monthly parking passes to the Redwood Garage for many years. We have never had a problem with the parking arrangement until today. Since returning from maternity leave my wife works night shifts and no longer needs her parking pass. I returned it to the Transportation and Parking Office for her today but had made the mistake of entering the garage with her card, so when I left work today I could not leave the garage with my parking pass because it was not used to enter (a system they use to prevent people who work at the medical center from handing off parking passes to friends going to Orioles or Ravens games). However, when I explained the situation and kindly asked the parking attendant to let me exit he said he would not unless I paid a $30 lost parking ticket fee. I showed him my parking pass and the paperwork for the termination of my wife’s parking pass but he still would not let me exit. Every time I tried to say I made a mistake and mixed up the card I entered with, he shrugged his shoulders and said “oh well, it’s your mistake.” Essentially, he was extorting me for payment beyond what I already pay to park at this garage. I asked to speak to a manager and he said that the lady he could call wasn’t picking up. When I asked if there was anyone he could call above her or whose contact information he could give me, he refused to do so and walked away. I had to call the police before the attendant would call the owner of the garage, but even then the attendant took down my name and my parking pass number, threatening that the owner would let me out but would terminate my parking pass. So I guess I’ll show up to work Monday and not have parking when I have patients to care for. Who treats people this way? Especially healthcare workers. All I asked for was a little grace, compassion, and some help. Imagine if my wife and I showed up to the medical center and told our patients at their most vulnerable times, “oh well, sorry about your life threatening illness. We can’t help you unless you pay us more.”

I needed a jump for my car battery, so roadside assistance had to briefly enter the garage. The attendant insisted that I pay for his entry, even though he was there for less than 10 minutes and didn’t park. She was unhelpful and completely unreasonable in trying to charge for a simple roadside assistance visit.

Great location but impossible to get out of after a game or event. Eutaw Street is constantly gridlocked and it was chaos coming out of the garage. People were leaving through the entry lane.

Decent garage but was a TOTAL RIP OFF! Call themselves public parking but cost was $20 for 1hr and 35 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon with no O's or Ravens games happening. Other area garages are only half that and validation discount for UMD medical appts. Absolute atrocious. NEVER PARK HERE!
