I was in the market for a new truck and decided to start my search on AutoTempest. I went in the app, filled in my search criteria, sorted by distance nearest and got my results. Empire Ford in New Bedford mass had the truck I wanted and was the closest available dealership, however it was about 2 1/2 hours from where I lived in New Hampshire. I wanted the truck so I waited until the next morning and called the dealership. I spoke with a sales representative, who told me that the truck was still available and that I could come and see it whenever I would like. I told them I could come this afternoon and that I would text them throughout the day to let them know a rough ETA on when I would be able to come down. Around noon I texted them and let them know that I was going to be coming later that afternoon, it would be a bit late, towards their closing time. They assured me that that was no problem and that the truck would be there for me to see. I then texted them again at 3:30 stating that I was on my way and that I would be there sometime around 6 PM that evening. Again, they assured me that the truck was available and that I would be able to see it. I drove the 2 1/2 hours plus traffic time to go down to the dealership and see the new truck. When I arrived, it was dark and there were only a couple of sales people working. I walked in and spoke to the nearest sales person who began searching in his computer for the truck. He appeared confused as he wasn’t able to find the truck, he went over to his manager to ask his manager if his manager knew where the truck was. I heard them chatting, but wasn’t quite sure what they were saying until they were ready to speak to me. When they were ready to speak to me, they informed me that that truck that I had called and texted them throughout the day about had actually sold the day before. I was incredibly distraught, but they told me that they had another truck just in a different color that they’d be happy to make a deal on. However, that other truck of course was thousands more than the original truck I was looking at. It was also the wrong color. I left the dealership extremely dissatisfied and vowed to leave this review on Google.
From there, the sales manager from a different Empire Ford in Fall River MA gave me a call, in fact, he called me three times. He was of course very apologetic about this situation and assured me that he would do everything in his power to help me get into the vehicle that I wanted. He offered to wrap the other vehicle that they had on the lot, he offered to find me exactly what I was looking, he offered everything under the sun that he had the power to offer. I was so distraught, however, from the previous interaction that I told him that I was not able to speak about it that evening and then he could call me the following day.
The following day arrived and I received no call from the dealership or the sales manager. I waited until almost closing time, and decided to give them a call myself. I was able to connect with the sales manager, who again promised me that he would look at the trucks available for auction and would sell one to me for wholesale price. Enthused by the idea of getting a good deal, I left it at this and him saying that he would send me a text with pictures and prices of the trucks that were available, and that he would make sure that I was taken care of. I called the dealership one other time to see if he had had any luck and he assured me that he would still be looking and that he would let me know when he found something. This was now over a week ago and I have since not heard from the dealership at all. Do yourself a favor and avoid this dealership. They bait and switch you. They have no intention of actually trying to sell you the vehicle you want, they want to sell you the vehicle they want you to own. I will never do business with them again. Ford needs to take a strong look at this dealership, and this family of dealerships and consider if they even are deserving of a dealer license at all.
