This review isn't against Tom's Auto just Intoxilock! I would give them 0 stars if POSSIBLE and I'd really like to update this review since everything I'm telling you really happened and has cost me so much money and hassle I can't even possibly explain! PLEASE Do Not use this company EVER! They lie and they're customer service is non existent. If you inquire about a town they will say theres a shop nearby and theres not! I had a Intoxilock breathalyzer installed in my BMW X5M... Very expensive truck that ran perfectly until they showed up at my house in the pitch black at night... installed my breathalyzer using a lighter and small flashlight to see anything? Lost all the screws for my dashboard and hood latch, left wires hanging out! And thats just facts. Afterwards day 1 after install it completely messed up my ECU and caused damage. My truck would start but immediately go into "Limpmode" which means serious electrical shorts. After running very expensive OBD2 testers on my truck and analyzing damage to the price of around $3000 at least for parts and work and Intoxilock denied any responsibility said it must have been an issue from before? Why would I pay for a breathalyzer installation for a truck that didn't run??? I called many times and tried to explain, the response was have it towed to your closest shop... My "closest shop" in the next town over - Told me they don't touch BMWs? What?! Like I could afford to tow it to Worcester 45 minutes away cost $380! Especially after my license reinstatement fees! My truck would not run, its now stuck in "limpmode" and nobody could tell me why? So I was forced to have each calibration done in my driveway every month which cost $80 each time they had to come. I was told originally there was a Intoxilock garage right down the street from me - which was why I chose then and a complete LIE! I was told by that company they no longer dealt with Intoxilock because of too many problems! Now the closest place was 45 minutes away! Its been 4 months and I still haven't figured out what is wrong with my truck now. I told them it didn't run and I couldn't bring it to they're garage... They're response was have it towed then or we will lock you out, which would have cost me $380 each way! The only good thing about this company is 2 employees (Named John & Josh) who were the only people that helped me at all and had any care for what happened to me! But they have to make they're $ too so I was charged each visit. Listen if you have any sense do not deal with these people there are better companies! Unfortunately they got me with a contract and Im screwed - dont let it happen to you!!! As far as the device goes it never registers, makes you retest almost every time! Its so hard you have to blow in-out-in for so many beeps... I smoke and its very hard! Might be my exact device but it's so so picky when it wants to work correctly. Terrible design and I'm an Electronics and Electrical engineer! I wish I never went with Intoxilock!!! And this is no lie since I posted this review they have been calling me asking me to make it right probably so I take this review down! But if I didn't write this, they never would have cared at all!

They where pretty good at explaining everything. Especially how the interlock system works. The person that installed the was patient with on showing me how to use the system itself.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
