I am horrified at the incompetence and complete void of customer service at Bedard Volvo. As a longtime Volvo customer in other parts of New England, I have appreciated a consistently high level of competence and service from my Volvo dealer. After moving to the Berkshires and working with Bedard as my local Volvo dealer, I made a difficult decision to end my relationship with Volvo and purchase another brand of vehicle after a recent car accident in a snow storm.
I brought my car to Bedard after the accident expected to be treated as a valued customer. Instead, they erroneously diagnosed the car as being fixable and spent over a month making cosmetic repairs. I notified Bedard at drop off that my car insurance only provided 30 days of rental coverage, so it was important to address the matter within this time period and to let me know if it would not be possible ASAP so I could make other plans.
I did not hear from any Bedard staff during this period, so based upon my naive trust in Volvo I assumed my car was available for pick up on the day indicated. When I called to inquire, I received an anonymous text message in return saying they were waiting on parts and did not know when it would be fixed. Only after I escalated multiple times through my car insurance, who noted they found the lack of response from Bedard challenging, did I find out that my car was indeed a total loss. The insurance adjuster said that there were over a dozen pages of damages and by the second page the car was a loss so this was not a questionable situation. This was in sharp contrast to the initial assessment from Bedard, which indicated mostly cosmetic repairs.
The explanation provided for why this lingered for over a month was that the service manager had gone on vacation, his team had focused on fixing the cosmetic issues and when he returned, the issue was escalated. As a result, they examined the car further and it was a total loss.
The ONLY person who proactively contacted me from Bedard through this ordeal was a salesperson trying to sell me a new Volvo and an anonymous text message (the sender did not identify their name or organization) asking when I was coming to pick up my belongings from my car so it could be towed away.
Unfortunately, due to their incompetence dragging out the total loss assessment, I spent $1000 out of pocket on my rental car.
Of note, when Bedard sends you a request for a Google Review it is autopopulated as 5 Stars, which you cannot change. This is likely why they have an average above 4 Stars. I logged into Google separately so I could deliver this 1 Star Review.
The reputation of Bedard across the region is horrible. Six different long time Berkshires residents told me they wished I had spoken with them before bringing my car to Bedard Bros because sadly my experience is not unique.
It is a liability for Volvo’s brand to have Bedard Bros manage their regional franchise. I plan to let Volvo know this as well.
