Gerber Collision & Glass is the worst body shop franchise that I’ve ever had the displeasure of experiencing, specifically the facilities located in Kenner (1601 22nd St & 2118 Kenner Ave). I was directed to Gerber Collision after I purchased a vehicle that needed some minor body work. The work was “pre-approved” through a SilverRock warranty plan and Gerber was in-network. I made an appointment and hoped for the best. The first encounter was horrible, to say the least. My appointment did not go as planned. After a less than warm welcome, the estimator (Larry) did not want to take the pre-authorization and insisted that I wait for “word” from SilverRock before leaving the vehicle at Gerber. Larry did a less than enthusiastic estimate and said that he’d give me a call once he got an approval from SilverRock, which is not the typical way things are done with body work (in my experience). But, I complied. Several weeks went by and I never received a callback from Larry. I called SilverRock to check on the status of the approval and they confirmed that the body work on my vehicle had been approved weeks ago. I proceeded to make a second appointment with Gerber. Once again, I made arrangements to drop off the vehicle, in hopes of getting the repairs done as quickly as possible. When I arrived for my appointment, more disappointment. Larry was there to save (aka RUIN) the day. He refused to accept the vehicle, once again. He argued that he needed to receive an email from SilverRock stating that the body work was approved. I showed him the email that I received in regards to the approval, but he still refused. I assured him that I called SilverRock and everything was in place. I offered him the phone number so that he could call and verify. He refused to call, and suggested that I call SilverRock back. I called SilverRock right in front of Larry. And just as I said, they confirmed the approval. At that point, he reluctantly spoke with SilverRock (on my cell phone) and seemingly got whatever he needed to proceed with the body work. BUT, because he needed to order the parts, I still could not leave the vehicle. He’d call me. Of course. At that point, I was fed up. I decided to go to a different Gerber Collision & Glass, located only a few miles away in Kenner. I had a totally different reception. They were friendly and willing to help. They gave me an estimate and allowed me to leave the vehicle. But, the vehicle ended up being at their facility for weeks too. Now this time, it was SilverRock. They refused to approve the repairs at the second location and insisted that I go back to the original location. SilverRock said that the second Gerber facility was not in-network. How could 1 facility be in-network and the other not? And why would I go back to a place where I was not welcomed? A place that was giving me the run-around for no apparent reason. Not happening. It was absurd to even suggest. After I explained the situation, the estimator at the second Gerber facility wanted to help; she said she would make some calls, straighten all of this out, and let me know. Plus, they had already started the work on my vehicle by removing the weather stripping on the back windows. Nonetheless, I was told that I should take the vehicle until they could verify everything with SilverRock. Spoiler alert: SHE NEVER CALLED. 🍌 Ridiculousness. Eight weeks later and my vehicle was still not repaired; in fact, it was worse off than when I started this journey. Conclusion: GERBER COLLISION & GLASS SUCKS. In reality, it is Larry’s self serving, smug attitude that costs the company business and compromises their ability to provide professional, effective, and efficient service. I finally gave up on trying to get the body work done through the warranty plan. And maybe that was the problem from the start. Who knows. But, I was able to get a recommendation from a friend. I went to the recommended place, and the work was done in a matter of days. So, where’d I go? I went to Paternostro Collision Works, their Kenner location. 🤩
