- JCjeremy cookApr 11, 20265.0I used to go the competitor across the street all the time. But they never have the part where they give me faulty information. Advance has had that part or give me the correct information every time. I don't know why I even bother anymore. Actually I do. I wish the stores were swapped now to the opposite side of the road. Advance is on the side. It is hard to get out of because of traffic on Mary Grubbs. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, whether in person or on the phone. Whether it's lug nuts or 5 gallon pails of oil or in between, they've always had it. I'm switching my loyalty to advanced.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
