I am renting a vehicle due to a liability accident that was caused by another driver, so this rental is being handled through their insurance. I normally drive a van, yet due to what was described as a “miscommunication” between the rental company and the other driver’s insurance, I was initially placed in a compact car. That is a significant downgrade, roughly five vehicle classes below what I actually drive and require. As a result, I was forced to personally pay an upgrade fee out of pocket just to receive a vehicle that was remotely appropriate. (Still in a small car: Chevy Malibu) Since then, I have not received any follow-up regarding the status of my rental extension or reimbursement, despite this clearly being an insurance-related situation. I also attempted to call for clarification and assistance, only to be placed on hold for over 20 minutes with no resolution. (I hung up because I cannot wait on the phone all day. I will be going in person to sort this matter out.) This situation has been unnecessarily stressful during an already inconvenient time. I expected clearer communication, better coordination with the insurance company, and more responsive customer service. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience so far. Edit: I picked up my van today and spoke with one of the staff about their customer service. They were kind and understanding and I feel we had a very productive conversation. I've raised the rating from 1⭐ to 3⭐, as I still feel phone service needs to be worked on. 20 minutes on hold is excessive. Otherwise this location did a good job. Thank you!
