I have never had an interlock device ever. 1st time I got it for 10 years in Kansas because of a crooked cop. I could tell you a lot about this but the rating is for intoxalock. So-Called to inquire about the service. I talked to 3 different agents one in iowa one in missouri and who knows about the third location. They must get paid a lot because I had 3 of them stalking me. So I figured ok, I will hook it up with them. They say they have service 24-7 if you have a problem we have all these benefits and it's cheap. So I schedule it. They got me in next day. Install guy was awesome- very nice guy, private mechanic shop. First day I got a mile to work. Got tested 3 times on the way. In a mile. And it tested me after I shut the vehicle off which is illegal. Guy who set everything up made it sound like they were the cheapest and it would be the best if I went with him. Free this -free that... Yeah right. First week after spending about 700$ to get it set up just with them- had more charges due immediately - another 110$ bi weekly. So I got upset and said no I just want to take it back out because of all the problems and testing me every 5 minutes while driving- it's unsafe. Snowing out and get distracted every five minutes to test. Almost went off the road testing on ice. If you miss one- you get locked out then get in trouble. They wont remove it. Won't talk to me or tell me how to get it out. Keep passing me all over the USA to different people. Said when I hooked it up it would be no problem. Yeah right. They lie. They get you to sign up and then if you decide it's too expensive or get sick of being tested every 5 minutes while driving- which is unsafe- you're stuck. Do not use intoxalock. Every time I talk to them they have foreign agents that you cannot understand or hear on the phone. Still haven't got it out. I will drive across the state to find a new provider. Had a friend who got one and in 120 miles got 2 tests-not intoxa scam.. I drive 1 mile and get 3. The price is paid every two weeks or they notify the state and you get in trouble. These guys won't tell you this when you hook it up. Afterwards your stuck. Find another provider. Intoxalock don't care about you. They just want your money. They have mess ups on dates for calibrations so again you get in trouble. It's impossible to complete this with them. You will waste your money and get a suspension because they only want your money and to lock you in a contract so you can't remove it or change with these guys- been trying and talking to lawyers and other places and they won't take their scamlock equipment out.. been trying for 2 weeks. Found out your lawyer will take your money- purposely lose your case so they can get a referral payout from intoxalock. So they make more money. Cops will give you dui- even when your not drunk.. guess why .. $$ they get paid from MADD. Cops who get the most dui's gets a 50000$ reward cash. The whole system is corrupt. State don't care if you were sober- they too get paid from intoxalock. So it's a huge scam. State is in on it, your lawyer probably, ( mine was), cops, and MADD. Everyone gets paid thousands to syphon your money. Then you can't get it out or change with these guys. If you miss a test or don't pay them fast enough, or don't get recalibrated,( they tell you a date then they change it so you miss it) and get in trouble... on the weekends - they answer the phone but can't do anything for you. So many complaints i heard since I've had it installed. People coming out of the woodwork telling me all kinds of bad stuff. Their equipment has not gave me a false reading ever. All the myths are BS- if your not drunk your fine. I can't drink alcohol so I never had a false positive. So far. But who knows... Only been two weeks so far. You will also be charged heavily to quit or change so if you can't afford it. Don't even put it in with these guys. I bet it's 700 maybe 1000$ to remove at least... I will know someday. They sound real nice till they get your money. Then you are stuck.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. However, the vehicle owner must provide consent for the installation. Intoxalock works with you and the owner to ensure compliance with state regulations and the successful setup of the device.
What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
If your ignition interlock device locks you out, it’s usually due to missed tests, failed tests, or state-specific requirements.
