- NKNattakit KhruasuwanJan 26, 20261.0I had a very disappointing experience at Advance Auto Parts, 5226 Touhy Ave, Skokie, IL 60077. The night before, my car needed a jump start, so I called this location to ask if they had a battery in stock and if they could replace it. I was told yes. Since it was late, I waited until the next day. I called again to confirm, and again they said they had the battery, but the technician who could replace it would arrive at 4:00 PM. I waited, and at 4:00 PM I called to ask if the technician had arrived. I was told yes, so I drove over right away. When I got there, the technician asked for details, then literally opened YouTube to watch how to replace the battery. After that, he told me he could not replace the battery because of the weather, but then said he could do it if I gave a good tip. This felt extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. I was confused and frustrated — either the service can be done or it can’t. Asking for a tip to do a basic service is not acceptable. Very poor communication and unprofessional behavior. I would not recommend this location.

- OOOh OhhooDec 3, 20255.0I used to go to the other auto parts stores until I found this gem with a no line no wait experience. Staff is phenomenal! Last night as my car battery died I couldn’t believe they installed it quickly for absolutely free of charge , the employees even refused my tip offer … they even advised me to take advantage of the wiper exchange program and them replaced my wiper blades at no extra cost . I will always shop here

The late-night cashier MARIO is 1 of the most professional and knowledgable guys Ive ever came across! Wow! Such a great guy! Informative. Polite. Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
