- JAJMJ AMDGFeb 26, 20265.0The Team Member Associates with the 1309 South Main St. Advanced Auto Parts in Normal, Illinois are always alert, ready to assist all who enter this store. Rylan, Mike and Tony (GM) are exceptional workers and people. My husband has been recovering, by the grace of God, from multiple brain surgeries and procedures as well as working through various heart issues. I stopped for gas, with my husband as passenger, near Advanced Auto Parts and suddenly was not able to restart my Ford Edge. The problem seemed to be the battery and all in very cold weather. I ran over to the Advanced Auto Parts, a place I have often visited with my Dad in years past, and explained my situation. Rylan gathered the appropriate information and was able to help me get my car to the store for further assistance. I was so thankful. Rylan skillfully worked with my husband in troubleshooting my car's problem. Rylan had us wait inside of the store as he worked out in the cold, all with a sincere and joyful smile. What a greatly skilled team indeed. My husband worked with Rylan in choosing a good battery and complete finish to fixing my car. Tony, Mike and Rylan all worked together between care for all customers in the store and taking good care of my husband and I. What a tremendous blessing this near crisis situation turned out to be, all because of three terrific, sharp, pleasant, and skillful young men, great at what they do. My husband and I thanked God for them and for Advanced Auto Parts. Always a great place to find great guidance and help along with needed auto parts and more. - CSClaire ScavoneNov 21, 20251.0INCOMPETENT, DONT LET THEM NEAR YOUR CAR! Had to get new windshield wipers and so was glad to have them replaced by someone more knowledgeable than me. Except this place has employees who replaced my front windshield wipers poorly and said to me they would break the back wiper if they tried any harder. Had to go to the auto parts on Clearwater where they had to replace BOTH front windshield wipers because of the horrid job done by these employees. Please never let these people here touch your car. Ever

Yes we do offer free battery installation on most products with purchase. We will also recycle and test your battery for free regardless if you bought it from us. Battery testing and installation is available at most of our locations.

Signs of a bad car battery can range from the need for frequent jump starts, slow to start, cranks or clicks but won't start, dash lights work but the vehicle won't start, etc.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
