Jiffy Lube - McHenry, IL This is a review contrasting two visits to this specific Jiffy Lube location. First Visit (A few months ago): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5 Stars) I came in to get one of my headlights replaced. They had the part in stock, charged a fair price of around $40, and the service was quick and hassle-free. Based on this experience, I returned when my other headlight went out. Second Visit (Recent - 12/09/2025): ⭐️ (1/5 Stars) Today's experience was unacceptable and a total waste of my time. 1. Inconsistent Part Availability & Customer Runaround: I arrived at 5:15 PM and was told they didn't have the headlight in stock. The employee instructed me to go buy the part and bring it back, which I did. 2. Refusal to Work and False Claims: I returned with the part around 5:40 PM. After guiding me into the bay, they immediately backed out of the job, claiming a nut was "too rusted" to remove. This was clearly an excuse to avoid the work, especially since I knew the procedure for my make/model (accessing via the wheel well, not the hood). 3. Ignoring Customer Knowledge: I explicitly told them the correct procedure for my specific vehicle required turning the wheel and accessing the light through the wheel well. They completely brushed off my advice, acting as if they knew better, and didn't even attempt to try the correct method. It was obvious they simply didn't want the business. 4. Absurd Pricing/Up-selling: The final straw was one of the three employees, whose name I recall as TJ, who tried to scare me into an expensive repair by quoting an outrageous rate of $159/hour for "headlight harness repair/diagnoses." The Result: I left Jiffy Lube without service and immediately went to Strickland Brothers down the road. They correctly accessed and replaced the headlight in under 5 minutes at no charge at all. The mechanic there even confirmed how ridiculous and unfounded Jiffy Lube's "too rusted" claim was. It appears this Jiffy Lube location is hiring people who are either incompetent or simply unwilling to do basic maintenance work. I will never return to this Jiffy Lube and highly recommend everyone go to Strickland Brothers for reliable, honest service.
