- MMMichelle1 day ago1.0I wish there was an option for 0 stars bc this company doesn’t even deserve 1 star but I can’t leave a review unless I give them the bare minimum of 1 star. For starters I showed up to get an oil change. They were telling me that it’s manufacturing recommendations that I use full synthetic. I messaged the guy I purchased my suv from and asked what oil they’ve been using, he said conventional. After back n forth with the tech they went ahead and done full synthetic. So instead of $30+ foot an oil change now I’m required to put full synthetic in it for as long as it continues to run (2015 Chevy equinox) which will now cost me $100+ for every oil change. And they didn’t even do the 18 point inspection, never asking me to turn on my turning signals etc. a couple weeks go by and my suv starts acting up. I google what the suv was doing, and even took it to have codes ran at advanced auto parts, it comes back as a misfire. I ask if it could be caused by an oil change and they say yes. I call valve line, got it in and they claim there was 0 oil in my suv 2 weeks after they changed the oil. They found a leak, did nothing except top of the oil. It cost me $200+ to have the reports made. Never again and I highly suggest that women don’t go bc the tech convinced me synthetic would be required and since I’m a female I feel like I wasn’t being taken seriously and got bullied into getting full synthetic oil. Def do not make the same mistake as I did. They aren’t mechanics and took advantage of me.

The positive about this store was the long technician. He was very positive, polite and efficient. If I still had a business I would hire him away. The negative was the store manager. He had me move the truck up and back several times to suit himself. Any communication he offered was always barked in the manner of a drill sergeant. Demanded I leave vehicle while being serviced. barked about where I put my feet when leaving the area when there was not much room between the machinery and the yellow caution lines. I ran a service business for close to forty years and would never treat anybody much less a customer so forcibly rude. Even with a discount coupon the cost was north 0f $80.00 for an oil change. I will not go back or can I recommend the Mattoon Valvoline store to anyone.

I was told they would not do any further work until their associate was back from the auto store with the correct filter in hand. Associate working the under bay decided to take matters into his own hands and drained the oil well before the new filter was in hand and confirmed the right part. Additionally, road ready check of battery and lights was not performed, nor was tire pressure adjusted. This is inexcusable considering I sat in the bay for so long. Three days later, I had to replace the battery because it was only holding 47% charge and if the technicians had tested the battery as advertised, then I would have known about the issue well before the battery barely started the car. Was only offered a 10% discount for the inconvenience of wait time. Will not likely return to this location again due to exceptionally poor performance and lack of regard with technician deciding to perform work before parts were in hand AND having a battery issue that should have been detected well before it was an issue three days later.
