I took in the cadi a couple months ago, thinking it needed a new battery given some symptoms i have seen. He tested it and determined battery was fine. Ever since then, YES the battery is fine, even through the cold weathernwe have had. Last week, the battery in my 5 year old QX80 was for sure weak. Couple weeks ago would not start on one of our cold snaps. I took it in last week, Craig says yeah, need a new one. They had a Diehard Silver option for very reasonable price and they replace it for you!. Craig swapped it out in like 15 minutes. And now all is good. Completely trust Craig and advanced auto does great work!

- LWLL WunderlichDec 9, 20254.0I didn't get names, but I wish I had. I visited the Grayslake IL store on 12/8/25 @ 3:45PM. When I first entered the store I was the 2nd in line and had waited for a few minutes for help as both representatives were busy. When one rep became free (male), a brand new customer walked into the store (male) and the rep totally ignored me and helped the other person. It is not that he didn't see me, he just chose to help the other person. I thought it was really rude. The other rep that ended up helping me (female) went above and beyond to service me, which I truly appreciated (which is the reason for 4 stars). If this review depended on my experience with the first representative, the results would have been far more negative (had to ding and remove a star because of this dude).

He was very professional with explaining the details of the installation and was very friendly and personable. Loved my experience here and would not hesitate to recommend this location! Does Advance Auto test and install batteries?
Yes we do offer free battery installation on most products with purchase. We will also recycle and test your battery for free regardless if you bought it from us. Battery testing and installation is available at most of our locations.

Typically a car battery will last 2-5 years, with premium batteries lasting 5-6 years. But you should replace it every 4 years for safe measures if you want to avoid any unwanted problems.
What are the signs of a bad car battery?
Signs of a bad car battery can range from the need for frequent jump starts, slow to start, cranks or clicks but won't start, dash lights work but the vehicle won't start, etc.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
