- JBJones Boss2 days ago1.0I had a very disappointing experience at Advance Auto Parts (Des Plaines location) due to an extremely rude employee named Maria. She was dismissive, and had a very unprofessional attitude. I came in needing help and instead felt disrespected as a customer. Customer service should be a priority in a retail environment, and unfortunately that was not the case here. Management should seriously address this, because behavior like this reflects poorly on the entire store.

I went in and met Oscar, and he was fantastic. He went above and beyond to help me with what I needed. I want to give recognition Oscar for being an exemplary employee. People like Oscar are an asset to the team. Because of him I will return for other automotive needs.

They told me it can only be returned if it’s broken when opened, so I trusted them and purchased it. When I tried it, the magnet didn’t hold the phone properly at all. I went back and the employee told me to “change your phone” or “change your phone case” instead of taking responsibility. Very unprofessional and the worst customer service I’ve experienced. I do not recommend this store to anyone.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
