I purchased a used Volvo from them in early March. The buying process was largely positive and I would’ve rated them close to 5 stars, however the lack of support afterwards has been poor. Repeated emails and phone calls have been ignored. I just need some information regarding my vehicle history and the registration process, which they are supposed to handle. That said, I don’t know if I would recommend them.

I had a great experience at McGrath Volvo. From start to finish, the they really went above and beyond to make sure my family and I found the perfect vehicle. John, my salesperson, was helpful, patient, and kind, helping us choose the right XC90 that fit all our needs. He took the time to walk us through various options and made the entire process feel easy and stress-free.
What really stood out was how great John was with my son—he made the experience fun and memorable, he even gave him a toy Volvo moose as a present, which absolutely made his day!
A big thank you as well to Pritesh, the finance manager, who helped me secure an extended warranty with complete transparency and professionalism. He explained everything clearly and made sure I felt confident in my decision.
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my experience. If you’re looking for a dealership that truly cares about its customers, I highly recommend McGrath Volvo!

I would strongly recommend being cautious before purchasing from McGrath Volvo Cars Barrington.
My experience highlighted several issues across the sales process, vehicle delivery, and overall customer experience:
1. Lack of transparency (financing & payment setup):
I was told to enroll in a third-party payment service that was not disclosed as a third-party service but rather as a part of my lender. This has since caused confusion with my lender and required additional time and effort to resolve.
2. No vehicle walkthrough or onboarding:
There was no explanation of basic vehicle features (windshield wipers, driver assistance settings like Co-Pilot, etc.) and no guidance on setting up the Volvo app, something I’ve always received at other dealerships.
3. Vehicle condition issues at delivery:
- Car was not properly cleaned, and I noticed visible interior stains the same day
- Missing parts were not disclosed at time of sale
- Tire condition was misrepresented (~50% stated vs. ~35% actual)
- A post-purchase inspection revealed additional issues that were not disclosed initially
4. Questionable inspection claims:
Throughout the process, I was repeatedly told the vehicle had been inspected by certified Volvo technicians. Given the number of issues later identified, this raises concerns about the accuracy and thoroughness of that inspection.
As this was my first premium car purchase, I expected a higher standard in both the vehicle and the buying experience. Unfortunately, I was absolutely wrong. I hope others can learn from my experience and avoid making the same mistake.
Overall, this process created unnecessary stress and extra work on my end. Do your homework, double-check everything, ask all of the questions and make sure to get a real answer, but really consider going elsewhere if possible. Learn from my mistakes.

I was sold a car that couldn't pass emissions in Illinois. I purchased a 2018 Volkswagen Golf R from McGrath Volvo Cars Barrington in April 2022 for $40,676, paid in full. The vehicle was listed on Cars.com with the following representations: "Vehicle Emissions: ULEV II," "292HP," "120-point inspection by Factory-Trained ASE Master Certified Technicians," and "CarFax Certified."
A recent inspection by a franchised Volkswagen dealership confirmed that the vehicle had three undisclosed modifications: an aftermarket racing catalytic converter that is physically incapable of passing Illinois emissions testing, a straight pipe replacing the OEM exhaust system, and a Stage 2 ECU tune. The tuning company, Integrated Engineering, confirmed in writing that the tune was registered to this vehicle on April 24, 2021, one full year before my purchase.
Two prior dealer listings of this same vehicle, at a dealership in Wisconsin and one in Toronto, described it as completely stock with no modifications of any kind disclosed. The modifications were present when McGrath acquired the vehicle and when they sold it to me.
Despite the listing stating a 120-point inspection was performed by factory-trained technicians, a straight pipe and aftermarket catalytic converter are physically visible under the car. The ULEV II emissions standard listed in the advertisement cannot be met by a vehicle with these modifications.
I was never informed of any of these modifications at the time of purchase.

What an exceptional car dealership! All of the team, from sales to service, are so polite, enthusiastic, and eager to help.
We were fortunate to meet Julio on our first visit. He is kind, personable, and extremely professional. He helped us find exactly what we wanted. Alex, the sales manager, is also very professional and both of them are a great team with customer service as their main focus.
Once we made our selection, Din helped us in the business office. He is so nice and very professional and his goal is to make things easy for maintaining our vehicle.
Matt and the service team are also very professional and helpful. They are so focused on customer service and getting any issue resolved.
We highly recommend McGrath Volvo. They really go the extra mile to make your experience enjoyable. They will exceed your expectations. We are so impressed with everyone, what a great team. Thank you, Julio, Alex, Din and Matt for making our car purchasing experience so nice. You are the best!
