My 88 year-old father has an older GMC Envoy, and it started making a terrible noise from the front end. I took it for a test drive, and was 99% certain that it was the passenger side front wheel bearing. I am quite mechanically inclined but I don’t have much spare time, so I suggested he take it into a shop and have it diagnosed and find out what it would cost to repair it. I looked online at shops in Driggs and saw that Claire and Dee’s Point S had pretty good reviews, so I recommended he take it there.
He called them to schedule an appointment, and they told him to bring it in at 2 o’clock and they would take a look at it. He brought it in, and they said they had no indication he had made an appointment, so they just asked him to leave the vehicle and they would take a look at it. Fast-forward roughly 2 1/2 hours later, they told them they had inspected it, and printed out an estimate for $2025.47! They didn’t even try to explain their opinion. Just here you go.
This vehicle uses a hub assembly which has the bearing incorporated into it. You just need to remove the wheel, the brake caliper assembly, the rotor, a nut that holds the CV shaft in place, and three bolts to remove the hub.
Their estimate stated that they were going to not only remove and replace the front hub assemblies on both sides, but they were also going to replace the upper control arms on both sides, lower ball joints on both sides after which the vehicle would need an alignment!!!!!
My father just had this vehicle into an alignment shop literally a week before this incident, and they thoroughly inspected the front end suspension components, and none were in need of replacement.
I purchased a high-quality hub assembly for around $65 and it took me just over two hours to replace it in my dirt driveway… Half of that time was spent trying to dig out tools from my shed.
The moral of this story is shame on these people! What kind of morally bankrupt business would attempt to take such extreme advantage of an 88 year-old person???
If Google gave me the option to give a -5 star review, that wouldn’t even come close to expressing my opinion of this morally bankrupt business. There’s no possible justification for such a blatant attempt at ripping off a vulnerable elderly man.
My suggestion would be to stay as far away from this business as possible, and if you have elderly parents in the area, you should urge them to find a more reputable establishment to take their vehicles for service.

I was traveling through the area on vacation and got a puncture in my truck tire. I called Point S at 5 on a week day. They got me in at 5:15 and patched the tire. I was out of there by 5:45. Now that is service! I highly recommend them!
