Look elsewhere. Terrible experience. Find a device where the Company will turn the device off if your car needs to go into the shop for work. Make sure they show you this in writing prior to having the device installed. Company’s will promise you things on the phone when buying something and then when the contract comes through the promises made to sell services are not kept( see below). To begin with, if your car needs to be in a mechanics shop they will not turn the device off while the car is in the shop. Either the mechanics in the shop need to blow into it or you need to be in the shop to operate the device for the mechanics. Our car needed recall work to be done and the shop would not operate the device. It was not practical for us to stay with car because of the length of time it would take to do the work. When I purchased the service Intoxalock Sales person Nathan Bailey, assured me there would be no prepayment penalties for having to terminate the agreement mid term. This is a concern because of the uncertainty of term with the legal requirements under your specific circumstances. This was discussed at length with Intoxalocks Representative. When I received the contract after paying the initial fee to have it installed it the contract included prepayment penalty provisions. I marked them out in the initial contract. However, We had to extend the lease several times, and Intoxalocks on line system does not allow you change their terms. Once they sell you on their service, you will find yourself on hold for extended periods of time to help you, this happened constantly whenever issues came up once we installed the device. We had problems with Intoxalocks automated system once we had their device installed. On one occasion we had extended the contract terms online. We were current on all moneys owed, but somehow their systems thought we owed money. We where getting notice that we owed money and the device would shut our car down. There must have been some kind of error in their renewal processing system. This caused us significant stress and panic with the fear our car would be rendered inoperable . After making several attempts to get things straightened out, we finally found someone who straightened things out. They did not seem to understand what happened, but our car was not turned off. They apologized. I asked for a credit for one month of service for chaos we had gone through. The Rep said he would talk to Supervisor to see if they could do something. Never heard back from them and I did not want to wait on hold again to talk to someone. When selecting an interlock service Company make sure to find the independent review sources and drill down into the details. No one likes to have to deal with court ordered services. But once you get the buggers installed you likely will not have the time to make changes and you do not know how long the requirement will drag on. I would not be surprised if substandard service is the norm for these court mandated services. But substandard service is most certainly the norm for Intoxalock. Look elsewhere. Good luck to you.

Brandy was awesome! I am not going to lie, sometimes with Intoxalock it is who you get. I had one woman who didn't want anything to do with my problem, but not Brandy. Brandy spent time going over everything I needed. She's awesome! She should be recognized for sure! Thanks Brandy!

Frequently Asked Questions About Mindr

How does an interlock device work?

Once the device is installed, drivers blow into the car breathalyzer mouthpiece to provide a breath sample. The device tests for breath alcohol content (BrAC) within the legal limit. If it's under the limit (typically .02), then the driver can put their keys in the ignition and start the car.

What is the cost of ignition interlock device?

An ignition interlock device, also frequently referred to as a car breathalyzer, ranges in cost between $70 and $150 for installation. This fee is a one-time fee paid at the start of your lease period for the device to be installed into your vehicle. This fee is paid directly to the service center for the work done to complete your installation.
