Update: I received a call back and was offered 250.oo, what an insult. That does not fix repeated safety failures that left me stranded or money spent to correct the issue. Review Stands!!! Avoid Intoxalock at ALL Costs — This Company Put Me in Unsafe Situations I am finally getting this device removed on December 5th after 1 year and 8 months of nonstop problems, and I need to warn anyone considering Intoxalock: run the other way. Fast. The device never worked right from the very beginning. For the first 7 months, I would blow, pass, and it would STILL not start my car. I live in an area with no cell service in many places, so this wasn’t just an inconvenience, it was dangerous. I was stranded more than once and even had to hitchhike to get help. I lost count of how many times I brought my car back to the shop begging them to find the issue. They couldn’t. My regular shop even refused to look at it again because they were tired of dealing with it. I went to a second shop where they replaced wiring and even my battery (which was perfectly fine). Things seemed to have been solved for 6 months and then the problem started happening again. And EVERY mechanic told me the same thing: “There’s nothing wrong with your car. It’s the Intoxalock device.” (I wanted them to find something wrong with my car and fix it.) I felt unsafe the entire time I had this thing. I would time it so I could leave my car running while running errands. There were times I could not leave my car running because I knew I would be in the store longer than 20 minutes or I was hiking. It was like playing Russian Roulette when I got back to my car. Will my car start or leave me stranded? Not fun. It is one thing when I was alone but entirely another when I had my 3 bulldogs and we were stuck a few times in 90+ degree weather. Eventually, I filed a motion with the court to have my interlock requirement vacated and the court granted it. That’s how bad it got. And then came the removal nightmare. I called Intoxalock to schedule the removal. The rep told me to go on Intoxalock.com to do so. The Intoxalock app told me I did not need to send in my removal certificate and that the process would take 48 hours. I waited. Nothing happened. When I called, the rep told me the opposite and said I DID need to send it in. No apology, no explanation. Just more confusion. I sent the certificate in immediately, waited 24 hours, called back, and was given a removal appointment more than two weeks away. Annoying, but fine. Then the week of the appointment, I called the shop and they told me I didn’t even have an appointment. I called Intoxalock again. The rep was impossible to understand, refused to let me speak to a manager, told me to "call back in an hour," and then hung up on me when I said I'd contact the Attorney General’s office. Yes, hung up on me. When I finally got someone competent, they told me it was scheduled at a different shop. I knew that was wrong , especially since I was told they talked to Sarah. Sarah works at the shop I go to. The other shop is a single man. Somehow the rep that scheduled the appointment did something wrong. I was told they needed to cancel the appointment and schedule a new one. I was not waiting longer. I had told them I talked to the shop I go to and they can get me in the 5th of December at 6:30 a.m. I needed a work order for it. Finally the rep fixed it. I have no idea what happened and was not questioning it because finally I had an appointment and Sarah at the shop confirmed it. This is the level of disorganization and incompetence I dealt with for almost two years. Intoxalock does NOT listen. They do NOT communicate. They do NOT take responsibility. Their customer service is a maze of misunderstandings, thick accents you can’t decipher, and representatives who either can’t or won’t help you. If you have another provider near you, choose them. If you don’t, honestly, I would still think twice. Intoxalock was unsafe, unreliable, and unbelievably frustrating from day one. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone.

The person that helped me was very helpful, it was my first time calibration. He was informative and very helpful to me being my first calibration. I recommend this place a thousand percent.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle.
