I wish I could have got photos but all I have are blurry. We counted 28 eagles out on the ice. Never in my life have I seen so many at one time!!! We sat and watched for a while. Some of them were huge! Great place to visit.

"Most expensive marina in the country," is how I describe this place to my sailing friends. It also has the worst amenities of any marina I've been to. I had a slip in this marina for a few years, and also had some work done on my boat and trailer over the years. Slip fees for a 26 foot boat are over $4000 for a season (six months), and amenities include a few port-a-potti toilets and a couple of dumpsters. Some slips have running water and power, but on my own slip the water didn't work for most of a season and the marina would not discount the slip or repair it in a timely manner. I've sailed and otherwise boated at a lot of marinas in the US and abroad. Saylorville's rates are way more expensive than any other marina I've been to -- and this includes fees in Honolulu and San Francisco (for example, a 30 foot slip in the historic Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco is less /per year/ than a slip at this marina costs for /six months/). The rates here are about double what they cost at marinas on the great lakes, including other marinas owned by the same parent company. The work they do is bottom-rate as well. First, there is a lack of communication: they won't tell you when they will haul out your boat or otherwise do the work, they won't tell you when the work is done. Second, they will promise that they can do some work such as fiberglass repair, but once hauled they simply won't do the work and won't you tell that you they won't do the work. In one case they agreed to do a thing, I pulled the boat in, they did half the work promised. When pushed, they admitted they couldn't do what I wanted as they didn't have people capable of pulling the part. Thirdly, they make terrible mistakes and shy away from ownership of those mistakes. A prime example: they knocked over a friend's boat while it was on boat stands, and didn't tell him about it. We told our friend a week or so later, figuring that the marina had already contacted him. They hadn't. I guess they hoped he wouldn't notice the damage to his boat. You can also look up the fire that happened here last year. From the sounds of it, the marina did not have proper safety equipment (fire hydrant was out of service and they likely did not inform the fire marshall as they were supposed to). This hampered firefighter efforts and cost a lot of boaters a lot of time and money. Anyway, if you own a boat I would highly recommend NOT having it in saylorville marina. Take it to another lake like Corralville, Rathbun, out to the Mississippi River, or one of the many fantastic marinas on Lake Michigan or Superior. Yes these places are a further drive, but they are far nicer facilities for less cost and more boat expertise. I've ended up taking my boat up to Duluth because the slip is half the cost and the marina has a lot more expertise.
