  I recently visited Brakes Plus for a tire rotation, and during their inspection they told me the valve cover gasket of my car needed to be replaced due to an oil leak. I trusted their diagnosis and went ahead with the repair at their shop. However, just a few days later, I noticed that the oil leak was still there. The oil was leaking from the same side of the engine as it was before. When I went back, they initially couldn’t identify the issue. They added dye to the engine oil and asked me to return after a few days. After the follow-up visit, they then told me that the actual problem was a leaking VVT solenoid filter. This raises a serious concern that why wasn’t this identified during the first inspection? It feels like I was charged for a valve cover gasket replacement that may not have been necessary, while the real issue was something else entirely. Overall, this experience was frustrating and disappointing. I expected a proper diagnosis from a professional shop, not multiple visits and additional guesswork. I would advise others to be cautious and consider getting a second opinion before agreeing to major repairs here.

  Very good service, they took me in the same day, they did brakes replacements, pads, calipers and brake hose for the rear axle, oil change, for my Honda Accord, all done in about 3 hours. Nice location and the store manager was very transparent about what needs to be done.

  Very disappointing experience with Brake Plus in Iowa City. I went there for an engine oil leak. They inspected the car and said the valve cover gasket needed replacement and charged me for the repair and inspection. They also said they cleaned the grease around the engine, but they didn’t. However, within a few days the oil started leaking again, and my car ended up almost out of engine oil. When I went back, they claimed another gasket was damaged and asked for thousand more. It feels like the problem was misdiagnosed or not properly fixed the first time. After paying for the initial repair, I expected the issue to be resolved. Think twice before coming here.

  If you are looking for a trustworthy place to get your car serviced look no further. I went in for a free brake consultation thinking I was gonna need brake pads and rotors expecting $800+. Steve Burns was incredible he definitely could have charged me what I was expecting but he was kind and honest said my pads and rotors are in great shape and don’t need to be replaced he even brought me into the shop so I could see it myself. He did recommend a brake fluid flush. I went through with a brake fluid flush and oil change they also cleaned up my brake calibers and rotors. Wonderful experience Steve is awesome definitely recommend!! Overall cost was $250 worth the money and peace of mind! Invoice #41814846292

  I’ve never been to an auto shop that’s been so open, honest, transparent and friendly like this before. Denny, Joe and Steven were sooo incredibly helpful and educational throughout my whole experience with them. I truly appreciate and admire the HONESTY, KINDNESS AND LOVE they gave to me when coming in the first time. They helped me understand a lot about a lot about my vehicle that most mechanics do NOT do. They talked about everything I needed to get fixed, showed me exactly what I needed and never tried to talk me into anything I didn’t ACTUALLY need! 💯 If I could give more than 5 stars ⭐️ I would!!! Frequently, women, the elderly, and disabled get taken advantage of who may lack the skills and support necessary for auto work and often get taken advantage of. But not here!!!! I’ll be spending the word out to all of my family and friends. THANK YOU!!! 🙏 So very much. I’m truly grateful. 🥲 Thank you.
