- JKJacob KurtApr 4, 20265.0I had a great experience at Advance Auto Parts. My 2005 Prius decided to throw a full dashboard meltdown. I suspected the 12V battery, and Tim confirmed it immediately. No runaround, no upsell, just a straight answer. Tim found the right battery and then he installed it. If you know Prius batteries, you know they’re hidden like Toyota was trying to win a game of hide-and-seek. What sounds simple turns into a teardown operation. Tim spent about an hour working through it without complaint and got it done right. Tim is a trooper. Steady, patient, and willing to take on a job most people would avoid, battling the freezing cold. I don’t love putting money into a car that’s on borrowed time, but this felt like a win. $280 for the battery, free install and saving me the hassle was well worth it.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
