My experience at sk motor in Hartley Iowa was horrible!!! I went into the facility on Friday I dropped off my car a paid to get a blower installed in my car. I went and picked it up the following Saturday morning the moment I got in my car and started the blower the intoxalock said "run wire warning" the facility was closed so I I figured that I would wait until Monday to call the facility back and tell them what was happening. That same day my car turned off on me three times. I made it home and parked my car and didn't drive it at all Sunday .Monday morning I called SK motors letting them know that my car wouldn't start and my battery was totally dead and that my car stopped on me three times. Steve answered the phone and asked me to tow my car back to the shop . I told Steve that in order for me to get my car back into the shop I would end up having to pay $300 for a tow company and I asked him would I be able to be compensated at all for having to tow my car back into the shop do to him not installing the intoxalock improperly. Steve from SK motors then told me it's not his fault that I broke the law and that I need to get a blower in my car and that maybe if I didn't break the law I wouldn't be having to go through these problems in the first place. So I ended up telling Steve I paid for him to do a job and he has no business talking to me about my personal life matters . The only thing that he should be speaking to me about is fixing my car because I paid him to do a job an and that its not his place to ridicule me about my life decisions. Steve then proceeds to tell me that he's not going to fix anything on my car and neither is he going to look at it nor fix what he broke.
I was totally shocked an offended by his rude demeanor. I then called intoxalock and asked them to send me to another facility because Steve is refusing to fix my car. I'm currently still without a car an have to pay another fee for another company to fix what sk motors messed up on my car. When I took my car to the other facility the man told me that SK motors messed up the wiring on my car and installed the intoxalock improperly.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
