- ENEmily Nichols3 days ago1.0I am submitting this complaint to report what I believe to be fraudulent and unethical business practices by Take 5 Car Wash, located in Ames, Iowa. I will be filling a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Ames Regional Economic Alliance. I visited this location for a one-time car wash. Without my authorization or consent, the company enrolled me in a recurring monthly membership and began charging my credit card each month. I did not sign or verbally agree to any ongoing service or subscription. Since discovering these unauthorized charges, I have contacted Take 5 Car Wash’s customer service multiple times, at least 3 calls and 4 emails, to request cancellation and a refund. Each time, I have been told the issue will be “escalated,” but I have never received a follow-up, and the charges continue. They will tell you to call - you'll talk to someone who can't answer questions, cannot escalate to a manager and who will say they will get back to you -- they will not. It's a scam. My credit card issuer has stated that because this is a membership-based charge, they are unable to block it directly and advised that I resolve it with the business. Take 5 Car Wash is not responsive or taking any ownership. In reviewing other customer experiences online, I’ve found numerous reports describing nearly identical situations: unauthorized memberships, ongoing charges, and nonresponsive customer service. This pattern suggests a widespread issue, not an isolated incident. This needs to be taken seriously to prevent further consumer harm and unethical business practices. DO NOT use or support this business.

I’ve been trying for a month and a half to get them to cancel the membership with no luck. Ended up submitting a complaint to the better business bureau and will likely end up disputing the charges with my bank since this business shows absolutely zero desire to actually fix their “mistakes”.

The guy at the terminal asked if I wanted a membership and I told him no, just a single wash. He responded with "I highly recommend a membership, especially with a car as nice as yours that way you can take care of it.", I declined again. I was a little off-put by the comment but I let it be. Earlier this month, I got an overdraft notification from my bank and saw that it was a charge from Take 5 car wash. I looked at my bank statements and saw that the charges recurred every month since April. I will state again, I only paid for a single wash. I have unknowingly been charged every month by Take 5 Car Wash. Im assuming for a membership I NEVER agreed to. I do not have a membership number, reference number, or membership sticker. Only confirming I never agreed to a car wash membership. I'm sure if you look up whatever "account" I may have, you'll see I've never used it again since April. I have contacted customer support MULTIPLE times, with confirmation of my request and I have been blatantly ignored for weeks. I'm at my wits end. I am now in the process of trying to get it sorted out with my bank since Take 5 Car Wash took no initiative to sort it out on their own. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated by the immense lack of customer service, and dismissal of unauthorized membership subscriptions. Take 5 will never receive service from me or my family again. I strongly DO NOT recommend this place for a car wash. Just go to Varsity down the street a little ways. They don't pressure you to buy memberships, don't sign you up with out your knowledge, and are cheaper with equal or better quality. Nice customer service as well.
