  I’ve always had great service at Ames CarX and today was more of the same. Needed a blinker bulb changed and the mechanic got me in and out in less than 30 minutes. Bonus to start my day was no charge. Car repairs stress me out so this was a blessing.

  Went in to get a valve stem repair. Snapped right in half. The sensor was still good and so was the integrity of the tire. Instead of trying to cheat me and convince me to buy a whole new tire and/or sensor, he kept it 100 with me. I like that. The manager just charged me for what was broken. That kind of integrity’s hard to come by in auto shops these days. Def will be back with any future repairs.👍🏾

  This is really a zero rating. On 11/10/2025, I took my 2017 Buick Encore (74809milage) in to Car-X #1749 Ames Iowa. I wanted an oil change. The store manager Daniel Warren informed me that I needed a valve cover and gasket. I paid $535.81. On 11/23/25 I was heading on HW 30 just started exiting onto HW 380 and my engine light came on.. Losing pressure. If was a dangerous exit onto HW380 and extremely grateful to having avoided an accident. Damn right frightening I had to have my car towed and called Car-X. They ask me to tow it back to Ames $700 + to tow. What a joke. Im not taking my car back to a crappy workmanship. I stayed overnight in Cedar Rapids $146 towing and Comfort Inn $156.64 and a repair bill $655.28. I am beyond pissed. I can't get CAR- X to do the right tbing, to respond to the financial problem that was created because of Car-X's employee error " of the right front of valve cover seal is a rolled out". This was verified by McGrath Buick dealer in Cedar Rapids. I have documented . Guest ID number 1749101339 invoice number 114008. I hav tried numerous time to reach district manager Tyson Landers, by leaving a message at Car-X in Ames and via his phone number. Come on Car-X you can do much better. Does anyone care about their rebiews??

  I had been a customer for years!!! Put new brake pads and rotors on last year... Went back 5 times in 5 months with complaints of brakes squeeking and not braking quickly... Finally, went to another shop and was told, due to cheap parts my brakes needed to be replaced!!! My pads were a 2 out of 10, which meant the pads and rotors needed replaced again!!! I used to be a loyal patron, now I'm just angry, and I've put in a small claims to get my money back!!!

  I needed my wipers realigned on short notice, Ethan told me to come in and he could take a look at it. He got it all done and fixed quickly and didn’t charge me. Would recommend.
