On Dec 25, we were handed a Jeep initially and the Jeep had really old tires, one of which went flat atop a mountain peak (in Mona Kea) . We took help from a forest ranger and changed the flat tire and were on our way to exchange the car back at the airport Sixt facility when the "Check engine" light started going off.
As we couldn't afford one more breakdown of the vehicle, we rushed it back as soon as possible (without stopping for anything, including fuel). Sixt however charged us a 62 dollar fee for fueling surcharges. When I explained the situation to the person at the desk, they said "talk to our manager on the day you give your new car back and we can waive it"
On the day that I brought back the second car, and once again , explained the situation to the person at the desk, they said, "take your flight, our manager is out but I am sure we can cover it". Only for us to get the invoice with the 62 dollar charge that is still not waived.
PS: This is a minor annoyance but the replacement BMW that they gave us after the Jeep had a "Carplay Amnesia " problem: i.e. it kept forgetting the carplay devices every single time we switched off the car. Please service your vehicles before putting them out on the road (especially those which are likely to be taken to mountain tops like the Jeep is specifically designed to be)

Natalie at the service desk is a pro! Bailed us out by securing us a mini-van on short notice during peak season at a decent price. In world where customer service has declined to nearly zero, this was a refreshing experience.

I feel like I should leave a review here. This agency had the best price for a rental Christmas week. I noted several reviews which mentioned they were charged for damages after they returned their cars, but I figured I'd go with it an make sure I documented the car at pickup and return (which I always do when renting a car anyway). I had a really good experience. The shuttle at the airport was easy and car pickup was easy (with a free upgrade). Return was also easy - the car was not perfectly clean on return (mostly sand from beach trips), but they said it no problem. Anyway, I had no problems here, but I rent cars regularly and always try to remember to take a video of the exterior and interior at pick-up and drop-off.

A SCAM place. Stay away at all cost!!!!
This is the 1st time I rent with SIXT. When returning the car, the employee said the car is all good. The next day, I received an email saying that there is a 5 - 10 cm scratch on the edge of left front door. There is no way to have this kind of damage during my rental period. On the other hand, the scratch is so small that it will be essentially invisible if a photo is taken 3 feet away. Now they charged $840.50 for that.
Attached is the photo they provided. It is a picture of size 94 KB, so it is not an original picture. It's hard to see if it's really a scratch or some man-made paint. On the other hand, they didn't provide a video to show it's exactly from the car I rented. If this is going to be on court, I don't think they can prove it anyway.
Don't be fooled by their low price, you will end up paying much more than in other rental companies, or spending your valuable time dealing with them. Wish I saw the reviews before renting with them. Now I will stay far away from SIXT (including other locations) in my whole life.
