  Alamo Rentals has the highest ratings at the Kona airport and after reading the Google reviews and renting my car from them for two weeks I can verify that their top rating is well deserved! The entire staff was friendly, competent, professional, and very respectful! They are to be commended. The shuttle was quick and easy with very little wait time and the driver was exceptional! The entire process of picking up the car and returning it could not have been quicker, easier, nor more smooth! Alamo has figured it out and I would not hesitate to use it on my next trip and also to highly recommend renting there to all of you reading this review! Again, the people that work there are exceptional employees and having rented cars all around the world they are a top staff! Bravo!

  We rented a Jeep Wrangle from Alamo Rent A Car, but when we arrived at the Kona Airport location, there were no cars available at all. The parking lot was completely empty, and there were already about 5-7 families ahead of us waiting. It seemed like other vehicle types were not experiencing the same level of delay — the frustration was mainly with Jeep Wrangle rentals. Cars were only released when other customers returned theirs, so we had to wait for almost 2 hours before finally getting our Jeep. This was especially frustrating after a long flight because we had no idea whether any cars would even be returned. We arrived around 5 p.m. and didn’t get our vehicle until about 7 p.m., and the communication about availability or wait time was unclear. When we returned the car a few days later, we noticed several Jeeps sitting in other car rental lots, but the Jeep pickup in Alamo area still had people waiting. This seems to confirm that they have a very limited Jeep inventory at this location. As a small compensation, the staff told us we did not need to refill the gas when returning the car. It was a nice gesture, but I still prefer not to wait for a long time. Overall, the staff service was fine — not bad, but not particularly strong either. The biggest issue was the long wait time and lack of transparency about Jeep availability. I hope Alamo can improve their vehicle management and communication for future customers.

  My party paid for a rental 6 months ago and were told as we arrived there were no cars available. One reason was for a mass recall and another reason was people keeping their vehicles who had flights canceled or delayed. Why we weren’t we notified in advance when they started having the shortage (about 5 days before we arrived), I don’t know. Individuals who booked prior should have been told to return their vehicles and then wait for the next available car. The waitlist for the next available car was awful as well. Absolutely ridiculous.

  Horrible experience overall. I booked my car months before and when I get here, no cars are available. I don’t blame the employees but why would Alamo give out more cars than they have. Unacceptable. The wait was around 2 hours and that sucks after 2 long flight. Go to any other car rental except for Alamo. Ruined a day of my vacation.

  My Hyundai Tucson was smooth to drive, comfy to sit in, and the air conditioning worked great! The check-in at about 8 pm was easy and they were super nice. When we returned, the adorable lady who checked us in was polite and friendly. We will definitely use Alamo again. The shuttle bus was a good size and the drivers were excellent at driving. Make sure to ask them to lift your heavier suitcases into the shuttle because they will if you ask. Here’s a picture of a sunset in Kona—you definitely need to go! Use Alamo.
