  Our experience at this Alamo was hands down the best car rental in 20 years of international travel. The lot had plenty of clean, modern cars when we arrived. Though there were several families waiting to be helped, it took only a few minutes to be called up by Hannah, our new favorite person in York. We had reserved a Ford Focus or similar with automatic transmission and air conditioning. I was prepared to advocate for these features in the reservation, as I do not trust my muscle memory to translate gear shifting to the opposite hand (I'm an American) while also inverting my habits in order to drive on the left side of the road. At the very least, I expected an abused small car that was technically "similar" to what I booked. No need. Hannah handed me the key to a new Ford Puma in brilliant condition. She took photos of the car, offered to have me do the same, noted the fuel level, and had me sign. Asked once -once- if I had arranged rental insurance. No hard sell, not followup questions, just amicable acknowledgment. Anticipating our return, Hannah offered to prep the train station shuttle when we dropped the car off a week later so we wouldn't have to wait. Sure enough, on dropoff, she was at the counter and checked our car in. As I typed in my email address for a copy of the receipt, she declared she would get the shuttle key and drive us herself. No need to ask or remind, no nitpicking over the bird droppings on the roof or measuring petrol out to the milliliter. Just "all looks right, let me return your deposit and go fetch the shuttle key." If it seems like I am reporting every piddling detail and word exchanged, it's because I am still surprised at how smooth the whole process was. I will definitely be booking my next rental with Alamo, and if we're anywhere near York, you can bet we'll head to this location and ask for Hannah by name. PS I'm not sure how to spell Hannah. If I've muddled the spelling, I apologize. Thanks for being great at your job!

  Our rental experience with James was outstanding. He made us feel welcomed, and coached us through the rental process instead of demanding or pressuring us. His main concern was that our interests were being served. Car rental can be nerve-wracking, but James made the process a breeze and Alamo makes it easy.
