I am waiting for Enterprise to settle a fraudulent charge of £250 for alleged damage to a hire car that did not take place. There is a thread on Reddit that suggests that this is now standard practice. I urge customers to be aware. I will keep you posted. I was a loyal Enterprise customer before this. I don't like to use the word scam but ...

Picked up a car from Heathrow yesterday at 1pm. Was pushed through as quickly as possible ... Woman who gave the car to me assured me that it was all in order, didn't even get any visual paperwork to check on car's condition. Wasn't even invited to check the condition of the car. More or less pushed me to pay for damage waiver (somewhat glad of that now, but it felt dodgy at the time.) Delivered it to the Cardiff depot today and told that I had caused damage to front bumper WHICH I KNOW I DID NOT DO. Was on M4 driving back to Wales and there was NO water in the windscreen washer🙄The worst thing was that the staff at Cardiff Enterprise refused to communicate with the staff at Heathrow Enterprise. Brushed off twice, at Heathrow and at Cardiff. Have registered a formal complaint with Enterprise 10 mins after dropping 9ff car. Waiting on results. If I am held liable I will fight it ALL the way! Watch this space.

I am currently being charged £250 for alleged “damage” to a tyre that has clearly been exaggerated. The report claims there was a “slit” or gouge, when in reality the tyre showed minor sidewall scuffing consistent with normal wear and tear (light kerbing). There were no exposed cords, no bulging, and nothing to suggest the tyre was unsafe or required replacement. This feels like a deliberate attempt to turn cosmetic wear into a chargeable repair. What made this even worse was the behaviour of the staff member handling it. They were openly patronising and came across as though they were getting a kick out of the situation instead of handling it professionally. Rather than explaining anything clearly, the interaction felt dismissive, confrontational, and frankly unprofessional. To make matters worse, the damage report includes comments about my behaviour — which are completely irrelevant to the condition of the vehicle and have no place in what should be an objective assessment. It raises serious concerns about bias in how this claim has been handled. At no point was clear evidence provided that the tyre was unsafe, structurally damaged, or required immediate replacement — yet I am still being pursued for charges. This experience has completely undermined my trust in how Enterprise assesses damage claims. Customers should not be put in a position where minor wear is exaggerated and used to justify charges, especially when combined with poor and unprofessional customer service. I will be escalating this further if it is not resolved properly.
